The episode everyone had been dreading is finally here, and it seems our predictions weren’t off the mark. Petals of Reincarnation has crossed a boundary it was not supposed to, and now there is no turning back!
That said, the introduction of a certain failed painter was not half bad. But of course, it should be considered nothing more than fictional storytelling on the author’s part. It is not really necessary to interpret it in any other way. Plus, throughout Episode 3, there were several other moments where Petals of Reincarnation truly shone.
Let me discuss it in detail, okay?

Darwin, Schrodinger, Simo Hayha & Others Take the Stage
You know what I love the most about Petals of Reincarnation? Yes, you guessed it right: the whole concept of reincarnation. Seeing iconic historical figures fighting for humanity in modern society against the Sinners is never not cool.
On top of that, the concept of Talents introduced in the series makes it even more engaging. So when Episode 3 keeps introducing one Great after another, like Charles Darwin, B. Fischer, Schrödinger, the Wright Brothers, and even Simo Häyhä, it feels like absolute cinema.
Even the current arc in the anime is entertaining on its own. As the Greats invade the Sinner organization, the roadmap is designed like a MOBA map, which makes it really fun to watch. Also, being able to see Einstein, Newton, and Funasaka working together was a real treat.
One of the coolest moments in the episode was when Simo Häyhä was neutralizing the enemy’s ranged attacks mid-air with his precise shooting. Schrödinger’s fight sequence was equally innovative, I would say. And the way Darwin uses his Evolutionary Talent to his advantage is so out of the box, I absolutely love it.
The Suspicion of Touya Working as a Spy Is Totally Valid
Touya Senji in a still from Petals of Reincarnation Episode 3 | Credits: BENTEN FilmAmidst all the ruckus, the turmoil surrounding Touya’s true purpose also takes center stage. Just as Einstein was wary of his participation among the Greats, now even Funasaka shares the same concerns. Touya’s powers really do seem like those of a Sinner.
And what can I say? Touya is now operating in the middle ground between the Sinners and the Greats. He is neither one of them. He simply wishes to steal all the Talents from every Returner, whether they are from the Greats or the Sinners. He is on a solo mission, which honestly does sound quite evil.
Thus, I must admit that the suspicions of the other members of the Greats make sense. Touya is not someone they should place all their faith in, as that could easily backfire. His quest for revenge against his brother is not ending anytime soon, so they must stay prepared.
Petals of Reincarnation Episode 3: Final Verdict
Einstein in a still from Petals of Reincarnation Episode 3 | Credits: BENTEN FilmDespite the sheer absurdity of its plot, I must say Petals of Reincarnation Episode 3 did a good job of hyping me up. There is nothing too complicated about the storyline, but simply by introducing so many new historical figures into the mix, it managed to grab a lot of attention. Also, I quite like its art style and overall visual presentation.
Thus, it would not be a stretch to rate Episode 3 a bit higher. However, the way the episode ends certainly makes it feel like the next episode is going to be bonkers. That is why this one works well as an introductory episode, as things are about to go down in Ep4. What do you think?
