The Toronto Humane Society (THS) hopes no one as it invites the public to meet them and more than 30 other newly arrived dogs and cats who have been transferred from partner shelters this summer at Paws in the Park, the animal shelter’s largest event of the year.
Paws in the Park Presented by Amazon takes place Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the shelter’s headquarters at 11 River St.

More transfers expected in coming weeks
THS says the transfers from partner shelters, with more expected in the coming weeks, is supported through the fundraising campaign, Pledge for Paws.
The money raised will provide medical care, shelter, enrichment and behavioural support.
As communities continue to respond to this summer’s wildfires, THS said it is also ready to assist shelter partners with additional animal transfers should the need arise.

“Every shelter transfer is a new beginning,” said Melissa Shupak, Director of Animal Sheltering at Toronto Humane Society, in a statement.
“Thanks to the generosity of our community through Pledge for Paws, we’re able to welcome more animals from partner shelters, provide the care they need, and prepare them for adoption. As needs evolve across the province and beyond, we’re also ready to support our shelter partners whenever additional help is needed.”
Other Pledge for Paws ambassadors are Hazel, a two-year-old mixed-breed dog who arrived this summer needing medical care, and Lucy, a two-year-old cat with a big personality and an even bigger heart.

To help even more animals, the shelter says all donations made through Pledge for Paws will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $40,000, thanks to the generous support of Amazon, Evolve ETFs and Petline Insurance, doubling every donor’s impact.
Supporters can make a matched donation, follow the ambassadors’ stories, or learn more by visiting PledgeforPaws.com.
