Outer Banks Season 5 Gets A Release Date With First Look 

Netflix has announced that its highly popular teen drama series Outer Banks will return for Season 5 on August 20, 2026. Along with the release date, Netflix also unveiled a teaser trailer and a selection of first-look photos on Tudum, giving fans a sneak peek at the Pogues’ final chapter. The announcement brings an end to the long wait for fans, who have been anticipating the show’s return for more than a year and a half.

The renewal for Outer Banks Season 5 was first announced in November 2024, just before the release of Part 2 of Season 4. At the time, creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke shared a statement through Netflix on November 4, 2024, telling fans that Season 5 was always part of their plan and promising that it would be the best season yet. They also said:

We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break.

All We Know About Outer Banks Season 5

Outer Banks Season 5 begins in the aftermath of one of the most devastating losses in the series: JJ’s death in Morocco. With JJ, played by Rudy Pankow, gone, the remaining Pogues are left leaderless, grieving, and far from home — as well as far from the Blue Crown they had been pursuing. His death raises the stakes for the final season, leaving the group fractured but still determined to move forward.

The dangers facing them in Season 5 are threefold: Chandler Groff is still at large, Dalia and the Corsairs are closing in, and the Kooks are doing everything they can to ensure the Pogues have nothing to return to. John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) find themselves in an uneasy alliance with longtime rival Rafe (Drew Starkey), all while trying to hold on to what they have fought for over the past four seasons. The final season is shaping up to be their last stand — a chance to avenge JJ and reclaim the future they have been fighting for.

The core cast is set to return, including Austin North, Fiona Palomo, Tony Crane, and Cullen Moss. Notably, Tony Crane and Cullen Moss have been promoted to series regulars for the final season. Following the Season 4 finale — the show’s first feature-length episode — the creators told Tudum that it “sets the stage for an epic fifth and final season.”

The creators have also said that the ending of the series was always clear in their minds. “We’ve always known from the beginning what the last scene would be,” Josh Pate told Tudum last year. Tudum also reported that across its first four seasons, Outer Banks earned nearly 200 million views and landed on Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list 25 times.
