Every popular anime or manga series has a dynamic duo that is loved by fans a lot. In the case of One Piece, it is Luffy and Zoro. The two characters have been together since the beginning of the series, and their combined fan base could easily take over any anime series. They are the most iconic anime duo in history, and they have proven it multiple times.

Both of them inspire each other to get strong, and together they have taken down some of the strongest enemies in One Piece.
The secret behind their bond is Zoro’s undying loyalty to Luffy and his dream of becoming Pirate King. When Zoro first started, he didn’t have much trust in Luffy and even claimed that he would kill him if he ever came between him and his dream. But as the story progressed, Zoro understood Luffy’s potential and has been by his side since then.
Zoro and Luffy’s Bond is Unbreakable
While Eiichiro Oda has never officially confirmed this, Zoro is Luffy’s first mate in every possible sense. He is the right-hand man of Luffy who has stood with him through thick and thin. Almost every member of the crew has tried to abandon Luffy at one point in time, but Zoro has been following him since the beginning and has a blinding trust in his Captain.
However, he is also the one who helps Luffy make the right decisions and follow the path of a righteous Captain. He has made sure that Luffy doesn’t fall or struggle at any point in his journey and has even agreed to lay down his life for his Captain. They are the unrecognizable best friends of the Straw Hat Pirate who cannot be broken.

And now their bond has reached a point where both of them would even abandon their biggest ambition in a heartbeat if the other person was in danger. They are the true epitome of friendship and loyalty that has never been seen in One Piece.
How is Zoro’s Loyalty Different Than Marco’s and Rayleigh’s?
One Piece fans have always compared Zoro’s loyalty towards Luffy with other first mates like Marco and Rayleigh. And the one thing that separates Zoro is his friendship with Luffy. Zoro chose to follow Luffy not because of any personal motive or hidden reason, but only because he developed a trust in Luffy, which was a little difficult for him considering his personality.

Rayleigh, on the other hand, decided to sail with Roger because they wanted to turn the world upside down. Both of them had different reasons to follow their captains as compared to Zoro.
Zoro doesn’t ask for anything from Luffy in return for his loyalty. He only wants to see his stupid friend succeed and become the Pirate King. He is willing to lay down his life and even his ambition for Luffy’s endeavor, and this only comes from the purest form of friendship that the two have developed over the course of their One Piece journey.
