One Piece: The Most Broken Ability in the Series Isn’t Haki or Devil Fruits, It’s Something Oda Has Drawn From Real-Life

Fans have often argued about which of the two abilities will turn out to be the bigger one in the final war resulting in the end of the series. While some lean towards the mysterious Devil Fruits, others are in favor of Haki and its three different types. However, there is one more ability that Eiichiro Oda has foreshadowed within the storyline that not many fans have focused on.

This power is the ability to pursue dreams. From the beginning, every character who has vowed to achieve their biggest dream has made tremendous progress because of their focus on their goal. And the biggest example of this, aside from the Straw Hat Pirates, is Koby, who started his journey as a cabin boy but is now a Marine Captain in One Piece.

The Ability To Pursue Dreams

Ever since One Piece started, the one aspect that has remained constant is the dreams and achievements of different characters regarding different things. These dreams become a motivator for the characters and force them to work and train hard until they achieve the said dream. There have been many examples of such instances.

In fact, the entire crew of the Straw Hat Pirates is, in a way, formed around their individual goals and dreams that they wish to pursue together. From Luffy’s dream to become the King of the Pirates to Zoro’s dream of becoming the Strongest Swordsman in the One Piece world, the entire crew has worked and grown together to reach close to their goals.

This growth eventually resulted in a glow-up that made the characters even more interesting for the fans. Not only that, their growth has contributed to the One Piece narrative, kept it enticing for almost 30 years, and helped the series become one of the greatest storylines of all time.

The Biggest Glow-Up in One Piece

While the Straw Hat Pirates are certainly a good example of how the ability to pursue dreams results in a decent glow-up, the one character who has gained the most from it is Koby.

Koby has been a part of One Piece since episode 1, and his introduction was quite underwhelming, as he was simply seen as a scared cabin boy who was forced by the Alvida Pirates.

However, when he met Luffy, his perspective on life changed, and he decided to pursue his dream of becoming a Marine Admiral. He enlisted himself in the Navy and worked hard towards his goal by training under Vice Admiral Garp, the hero of the Navy. Thus, making it clear that the most broken ability in One Piece is indeed the ability to pursue dreams.

While it has not been officially confirmed by Eiichiro Oda, he has dropped some major hints about this mysterious ability. The biggest one being Celestial Dragons, who have not had any kind of glow-up since the beginning of One Piece, as they do not have any kind of dream to pursue and serve as the antagonists of the series.
