SUMMARY

  • As if the Haki system from One Piece wasn't confusing enough already, the animation of Koby's Honesty Impact has made it worse.
  • The red ad black lightning tendrils that were usually assigned to Conqueror's Haki is now used in Honesty Impact which imbues Armament Haki.
  • This makes fans question if Eiichiro Oda is confusing fans more or it is a simple animation mixup.

Eiichiro Oda introduced Haki in One Piece as a mysterious power that allows one to harness their own spiritual energy to achieve various results. While it was a fascinating concept in the beginning, as the story progressed, the Haki system became more and more confusing.

With the animation debut of Koby’s Honesty Impact in episode 1122 of One Piece, fans have more queries than answers, and all eyes are on Oda. Only a proper explanation in the next episodes will cure fans of their bamboozlement.

[Spoiler]

In episode 1122 of One Piece, Koby uses his Honesty Impact in which he imbues his fist with Armament Haki and delivers a powerful punch. This punch is so deadly that shockwaves project from it. However, when Koby used this move, black and red flashes of lightning formed around his fist.

Traditionally, black and red tendrils were assigned to the usage of Conqueror’s Haki in One Piece. However, Koby does not possess Conqueror’s Haki, and it has been stated that he can only use Armament and Observation Haki. So how did his Honesty Impact have effects similar to those of the rarest form of Haki?

Either the red and black tendrils are shown just to expose how extremely powerful the punch is, or One Piece is completely mixing up all the Hakis. Given Eiichiro Oda’s eye for detail, mixing up Haki isn’t a popular option. So, is it just an animation mixup? Or is it a hint towards Koby’s future awakening?

One Piece Anime Mixes up the Haki System Even More

Eiichiro Oda is used to cramming a lot of details in the One Piece manga. Given that it is just black and white drawings with a lot of information, fans often look forward to the anime for further clarity of things. But what if it is the anime that makes you more bamboozled than you were before?

The One Piece anime has always been the best at clearing up battles and the usage of different abilities. It is almost like how you can only know the difference between different transformations of Goku if you see colorized or animated versions of them. The perplexity first began during the Wano arc with the introduction of Aura. The different colors of the Haki and Auras and what they denote gave fans whiplash during the Zoro Vs. Killer battle.

More and more fans can be seen comparing the One Piece anime to Dragon Ball due to all the different colors involved and the difficulty of remembering what they mean. But after assigning the red lightning to Advanced Conqueror’s Haki, the anime again used it for Koby’s Honesty Impact, and fans have been seeking clarity ever since.

The One Piece manga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
