The former leader of the federal NDP who helped prop up the minority Justin Trudeau Liberal government is reportedly in the running to head a major Crown corporation. In a story first reported by CTV News on Wednesday, former NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is reportedly being considered to head Destination Canada — a federal Crown corporation dedicated to promoting and marketing Canada as a tourist destination around the world.

Duane Ward’s family shares moving tribute to late Blue Jays pitcher

The family of Duane Ward has paid tribute to the late Toronto Blue Jays pitcher in a moving obituary shared to Facebook. “He passed away suddenly and peacefully,” the obituary says. The legendary pitcher was in Toronto earlier this month when the Blue Jays celebrated members of the team’s back-to-back World Series championship clubs earlier this month.

Enjoying a holiday with Katy Perry this week, Justin Trudeau was pictured on a boat somewhere in France, slathering sunscreen on the breasts of his bodacious beau. At first, he appeared deep in his thoughts, while rubbing sunscreen on her chest; that is, until Perry pulled down her top, allowing the former leader of Canada to really get his hands dirty, as Perry looked out into the distance on a sun-splashed day out with friends.

FIFA World Cup’s financial ‘failure’ deserves an audit: Toronto city councillor

Josh Matlow says Toronto had a blast but the World Cup was a money-losing ‘mistake.’ ‘I just think from a financial perspective, this was a failure. I think from a city staff management angle, they should be commended,’ Matlow said Thursday, as he called for city council to urge Toronto’s auditor general to scrutinize the ‘value for money’ in hosting the soccer tournament. City council had received an internal report that estimates only 44% of premium tickets to the city-run Fan Fest had sold. Matlow said the city missed its target there, as well as the one laid out for the hotel tax.

Thief accused of repeated hits on community garden in Bowmanville

Fruit and vegetables are no longer safe after a man was captured on video stealing from community garden plots in Bowmanville. Liberty Allotment Gardens took to social media to share photos and video of the brazen veggie thief, who they say hops their fence and strolls off with bags of lovingly grown crops. The garden co-ordinator, who did not want to be named, called the situation ‘disgusting and sad.’
