Meccha Chameleon Paints Its Way Onto Consoles With Nintendo Switch 2 Release

One of 2026’s biggest indie titles just went from PC-only to multiplatform, but with a twist. Meccha Chameleon, the hide-and-seek multiplayer game that turned the camouflage mechanic into one of the best-selling games of the year, has officially launched on Nintendo Switch 2.

The console version was unveiled during a September 9 Nintendo Direct and made available on the eShop the very same day, meaning you can fire up your handheld right now and hop in if you want to.

Meccha Chameleon first launched on Windows via Steam in June 2026 and quickly became a phenomenon, with over 10 million copies sold in its first month and eventually surpassing 20 million. Moreover, it stayed exclusive to PC for the longest time until now.

Nintendo’s September Direct officially announced the release of Meccha Chameleon on the Switch 2 and released the game immediately rather than waiting for a distant launch window. Notably, with this move, Switch 2 is currently the only console platform the game is confirmed to be on, with no word yet on whether PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S versions are in the works.

At its core, Meccha Chameleon is a twist on the classic prop-hunt formula. The matches split players into two roles: chameleons, who must hide, and hunters, who must find them before time runs out. Rather than simply disguising themselves as pre-set objects in the environment, chameleons take control of a small, blank, doll-like character and manually paint it to blend into whatever’s nearby, from walls to paintings and even stray pieces of furniture.

The painting mechanic is what separates this one from other prop-hunt titles, and it’s a big reason the game has proven so shareable online. The matches are short, and the concept is easy to understand.

Additionally, since its launch, the developers have kept adding in content rather than letting the game live and die on its five minutes of fame. This means there are new official maps, dolls, and other similar mechanics to enjoy, and likely more to be added as time goes on. Since launch, a new join-code system has also replaced the original server browser, meaning grouping up with your friends is now as easy as cracking an egg.
