After all this time, we’ve finally got a deep dive into Marvel’s Wolverine. Insomniac Games gave us a seven and a half minute gameplay trailer during the June 2026 PlayStation State of Play. The trailer featured everything you’d expect from a Wolverine game, with everything from brutal combat, familiar story hints, and characters from Marvel’s mutant lore, and several details of Logan himself.
More Wolverine from the State of Play:
– brutal single player focused
– bloodbath with violent gameplay
– LIMB destruction, rated R gameplay (they didn't hold back)
– Jean Grey teams up with Wolverine
– Some signature moves like Tornado Spin, Bull Rush, and Critical Strike… pic.twitter.com/1tRtDk8zyw
Insomniac gave us some obvious reveals in the trailer, such as Jean Grey and Sabretooth. But it also had plenty of smaller details that could hint at the game’s larger story, world, and gameplay mechanics. Here are ten details you may have missed from the latest gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, ahead of its September 15, 2026, release.
1 Trask Industries Could Be the Main Enemy
Trask seems to be one of the major villain figures in the game. | Image Credit: Insomniac GamesOne of the easily missable things throughout the trailer is the repeated appearance of the Trask name on vehicles, containers, and equipment.
In Marvel comics, Bolivar Trask is best known as the creator of the mutant-hunting Sentinels. The trailer establishes that mutants are being captured by Trask Industries and transported in secured convoys. The game suggests that the corporation is conducting research or experiments on mutant subjects.
We’ve seen Trask in multiple of the X-Men movies already, and the constant Trask branding throughout the mission strongly points toward the company being one of the game’s primary antagonistic forces.
2 The Trailer Hints at Early Sentinel Development
The Sentinel enemy looks scary and will probably be a tough one to beat. | Image Credit: Insomniac GamesSentinels are one of the most iconic enemies for the mutants in X-Men history, and the gameplay trailer may have hinted at their presence in the game.
In one of the shots early in the trailer, Wolverine is fighting what looks like an incomplete Sentinel under construction. The machine appears unfinished, lacking several components, while still attached to a manufacturing facility.
Another shot towards the end of the trailer also shows smaller Sentinel-like enemies. This could indicate that players will witness Trask Industries gradually developing increasingly dangerous Sentinel models as the story progresses.
3 The Reavers Have Teamed Up With Trask Industries
They might be the enemies with the most screen time. | Image Credit: Insomniac GamesMost of the trailer is Logan fighting the cybernetically enhanced mercenaries known as the Reavers, but Insomniac may have big plans for the group in terms of their role in the story.
Many Reavers shown in the footage have robotic limbs and advanced augmentations. Their close relationship with Trask Industries could suggest that the company is supplying them with technology in exchange for their services hunting mutants.
4 Jean Grey Is Just an Ally, Not a Playable Character
Jean Grey shows up, but it doesn’t look like we can play as her. | Image Credit: Insomniac GamesJean Grey’s appearance was one of the trailer’s biggest surprises, but we probably won’t be able to play as her. The gameplay footage shows Jean assisting Wolverine with telekinetic attacks, crowd control, and combo attacks during the fighting sections.
But the thing is, Insomniac has confirmed (via IGN) that Marvel’s Wolverine remains a single-player game, with Logan being the sole playable character.
Jean will most likely be just a story companion during specific missions, helping Wolverine during the mission.
5 Wolverine’s Tracking Abilities Go Beyond Sight
Wolverine uses his eyes, ears, and nose to track enemies. | Image Credit: Insomniac GamesThe first scene of the trailer shows us a new aspect of Logan’s investigative skills. He appears to track a target using a strand of red hair and a piece of clothing before later identifying enemy locations through enhanced senses.
During stealth segments, nearby enemies are highlighted through walls and environmental objects. Instead of having a traditional detective mode, the game seems to adapt Wolverine’s heightened senses into a unique tracking mechanic that fits the character’s comic-book abilities.
6 Wolverine Is Finally Being Portrayed at a More Comic-Accurate Height
Our short king finally has an appropriate height. | Image Credit: Insomniac GamesFor years, Wolverine’s short height has often been overlooked in adaptations due to Hugh Jackman’s height in his portrayal of the character.
Funnily enough, one enemy directly refers to Logan as “shorty” during the gameplay segment. While it’s not a big detail, it suggests Insomniac is embracing one of Wolverine’s most recognizable comic-book traits and depicting him closer to his traditional height.
7 A Spider-Man Universe Easter Egg Is Hidden in Plain Sight
The two universes might just be connected. | Image Credit: Insomniac GamesIf you pay attention during the first ten seconds of the trailer, there is a small shot of Logan jumping off a building. And in the background of the city, there’s a tower with the Roxxon Corporation logo.
Roxxon has already appeared throughout Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, and this is basically confirmation that Marvel’s Wolverine takes place within the same shared universe. It’s a small detail, but it further connects Logan’s adventure to Insomniac’s broader Marvel continuity.
8 Wolverine Can Actually Die
It doesn’t look like he’s fully immortal! | Image Credit: Insomniac GamesDespite his legendary healing factor, Logan is not immortal in Marvel’s Wolverine. Insomniac confirmed that Wolverine’s health system is tied directly to his ability to regenerate. During combat, healing slows significantly because his body is focused on fighting.
If Logan takes too much damage and his heart stops, he can die. However, if you have enough Rage, you can trigger a healing ability that revives him mid-battle. This means that you’ll have to be at least a little bit careful during difficult fights.
It’s a nice way to not make the game too easy, while still staying faithful to Wolverine’s comic-book powers.
9 Wolverine’s Patch Persona Is Making an Appearance
We can be sure to see a ton of references to the comics. | Image Credit: Insomniac GamesOne of the easiest details to miss shows up towards the end of the trailer, in a montage of different scenes from the game.
A brief shot shows Logan wearing a white dinner jacket, a look strongly associated with his Patch identity. In Marvel comics, Patch is one of Wolverine’s most famous aliases, typically used during his adventures in Madripoor.
The inclusion of this outfit suggests players may explore that side of Logan’s history, potentially visiting Madripoor and experiencing storylines inspired by some of Wolverine’s classic comic arcs.
10 The Hand Is Joining the Fight
The story could take us to Japan if this is the case. | Image Credit: Insomniac GamesNear the end of the trailer, we see Wolverine fighting with ninja enemies that wear red and strongly resemble members of The Hand, one of Marvel’s most infamous criminal organizations.
In the comics, The Hand was a part of Wolverine’s adventures in Japan, so their inclusion could indicate that portions of the game will explore Logan’s history in the region. Their appearance also suggests the story will feature multiple factions rather than a single enemy group.
Marvel’s Wolverine’s State of Play presentation gave us far more than we could have expected. With Jean Grey, Mystique, Sabretooth, Omega Red, The Hand, and Sentinels all seemingly involved, Insomniac’s upcoming game could have one of the most unique X-Men-related stories ever told in a video game.
The best part is, we won’t have to wait long to find out exactly what’s in store. What are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments!
