Marvel has just dropped its strangest relationship reveal in years. At the New York Comic Con, a panel with Venom writer Charles Soule announced that Yelena Belova is in a relationship with Venom and that the symbiote’s host, Eddie Brock, is also involved. That means the Russian spy is entangled with a human journalist and the alien symbiote bonded to him, all at once.

— Cosmic Marvel (@cosmic_marvel) October 10, 2026The comics have explored some weird and nasty relationships before. Carnage got together with Shriek, and the Mystique and Sabretooth romance was all sorts of strange. However, Yelena and Venom (and Eddie) will definitely go in the Nasty Relationship Hall of Fame. As Soule’s Venom #4 comes out in January, fans have had a frenzied reaction on social media.
Marvel Confirms Yelena’s Romance with Venom at NYCC
Yelena Belova and Venom | Credits: Marvel ComicsDespite the Tom Hardy films focusing on this relationship, Venom and Eddie Brock have been apart for quite some time in the comics now. Venom was attached to Brock’s son Dylan until now. However, Charles Soule brings back the dynamic duo with his upcoming series, giving their toxic relationship another chance at redemption.
However, it seems to be a completely turbulent time for Eddie as this reconnection comes with another added (dis)advantage. Venom is in a relationship with Yelena Belova, and Eddie is involved. Soule mentioned in a panel at NYCC that the decision came about because he wanted more romance in the series and Venom would give him the freedom to explore interesting avenues (via AIPT Comics).
The panel also revealed that more information about how Yelena and Venom came to be a thing will be told in the upcoming issue of Venom #4, which debuts in January 2027. They hinted that the story revolves around one of Yelena’s missions going sideways, which puts her on the path. The upcoming issue is called ‘Love Lies Bleeding’, which is fitting for the narrative.
This seems to be an interesting route for the story to take as Venom and Eddie come back together after a long time. While the symbiote bonded with Eddie’s son Dylan and with Mary Jane Watson, and Eddie hosted the serial killer symbiote Carnage. Dating Yelena Belova while sharing a body with an alien is a bold way to start that fresh chapter.
What Has Marvel Planned for Yelena Belova and Venom
Eddie Brock | Credits: Marvel ComicsWhat makes this pairing interesting is how the relationship is being described by Charles Soule and the Marvel panel at NYCC. The primary couple seems to be Venom and Yelena Belova, while Eddie just seems to be ‘involved’. This makes things more complicated (and fun), as Yelena got two boyfriends for the price of one, so to speak. Whether this is a true three-way arrangement, a symbiote romance that Eddie simply comes along for, or something stranger is still unclear.
As nasty and strange as this relationship is, Charles Soule’s statements and the setting of the story so far seem to hint at a longer game. It is not a gag that goes away after one issue, but may be part of the three-act storyline that Soule said he is planning with Venom, which entirely depends on the performance of this arc.
In the story so far, Venom has claimed Alphabet City and renamed it ‘Venom City,’ and further stories hint at some external forces lurking beneath to defeat him. Yelena might be involved in this somehow, judging by her identity as a Black Widow. However, there are no concrete plans revealed for how this story will go forward.
Fans have been reacting to the news as expected, with some approving it as an interesting choice while others fearing the chaos that will no doubt come.

— Baradise, Sabretooth’s horndog malewife (@heavenblitzer) October 10, 2026@cosmic_marvel Cool! Don’t know why people are freaking out about. Makes sense that a nan and his symbiote would come as a package. This is basically as close to monogamy as polygamy can get.
For now, readers can pick up Venom #1 on October 14 and wait for Venom #4 in January 2027 to see how this unlikely love story began.
