Cops said emergency crews were called to a home near Ray Lawson Blvd. and Bent Tree Crt. in the Steeles Ave. W.-McLaughlin Rd. S. area shortly after 4 a.m.

Police said the shooting occurred during a home invasion. Cops alleged that at least two suspects armed with firearms entered the residence through the rear of the home while the occupants were asleep.

A confrontation occurred, Const. Tyler Bell-Morena said, after the suspects entered the home, leading to shots being fired inside the residence.

Paramedics transported a man and a woman to a trauma centre. The suspects fled from the area and are still wanted. They were both wearing dark clothing and their faces were covered.

Bell-Morena said it’s unclear how many shots were fired as well as what type of firearm was used.

Police are asking residents with a doorbell camera or CCTV footage from the area to retain the video and contact investigators.

1 person dead after brawl in North York

Toronto Police have launched a homicide investigation after a person was struck and killed by a vehicle during a brawl involving a “large group of people” in North York early Sunday morning.

Police said officers were called to the Keele St.-Wilson Ave. area at about 6 a.m. for reports of a large group of people fighting. Supt. Jack Gurr said an argument broke out in the area and escalated into a fight involving multiple people.

Officers arrived and found a man who had been injured and struck by a vehicle. Paramedics attempted life-saving measures at the scene; however, the victim later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

Police said a second person was also transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and that the homicide unit has taken over the investigation.

Investigators said a light-coloured vehicle was seen fleeing the area shortly afterward. Police said the vehicle and its occupants are still being sought.

OPP safety blitz after 5 children killed in crash

Ontario Provincial Police are preparing to kick off a new public awareness campaign this week that highlights the dangers present at intersections.

The OPP said that from 2021 to 2025, almost 5,000 motor-vehicle collisions were recorded and about a quarter of those collisions were intersection related.

The safety blitz came as a rural Ontario community was dealing with the grief of a deadly crash on Friday night, where five children died.

The deadly crash happened Friday night at the intersection of 4th Line and Wellington Rd. 12 in Mapleton Township, northwest of Kitchener.

Investigators said that five children were killed and an infant was among the six people injured after a van carrying 10 people collided with an SUV and its sole occupant.

Officials said that those injured in the crash were still hospitalized, adding it could be days or weeks before more details about the collision are made public.
