Toronto Police claim the accused met the alleged victim through a Facebook dating app and met up with her in the area of Lawrence Ave. E. and Homestead Rd. – east of Morningside Rd. in Scarborough – on April 1.

“The accused sexually assaulted the victim,” police alleged in a statement released Friday to notify the public of the arrest.

Police also allege the man “engaged in a course of harassing conduct toward the victim following the sexual assault.”

Investigators subsequently identified a suspect and arrested him on April 27.

Accused charged with several criminal offences

John Haylock has been charged with one count of sexual assault and two counts of criminal harassment.

“Investigators believe the accused utilized various digital platforms and social media applications to contact individuals,” police said. “These platforms include, but are not limited to, Facebook and Facebook Dating, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and other various dating applications.”

Concerned about the possibility of other alleged victims who may have had contact with John Haylock through these digital platforms or in person, investigators have released an image of the accused.
