Toronto Police are turning to the public for help identifying a vehicle after several members of the Jewish community were injured by a replica firearm in North York on Thursday.

And investigators believe the assault was motivated by hate, which has seen Jewish residents, businesses and schools targeted by violence.

Police said they were made aware of an assault that took place in the Bathurst St. and Lawrence Ave. W. area., adding the victims were visibly identifiable members of the Jewish community.
Weapon described as Orbeez-type gun
It was reported to investigators that a suspect, who was in a vehicle, discharged a replica firearm at the victims. The weapon was described as an Orbeez-type gun, which typically fires water-based soft gel beads.
Police said the victims sustained minor injuries.
After the shots were fired, cops said the suspect fled in a blue SUV. Investigators released security camera video of the suspect vehicle.
The investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence, police said.
When suspected hate-motivated offences are reported, police said the investigation is led by the Hate Crime Unit.

Numerous incidents in recent times
Other recent episodes in the Greater Toronto Area where police suspect criminal acts were motivated by hate include shootings at synagogues, schools and businesses as well as assaults, vandalism, and public incitement of hatred.
On Friday, police in Toronto and York Region say a male suspect is wanted for March shootings at synagogues in North York and Vaughan.
On Wednesday, York Regional Police said a male suspect is wanted following an assault at a Vaughan synagogue.
