With Liar Game Episode 2 released on April 13, 2026, at 9:00 am PDT, the series of psychological warfare continues as Akiyama makes preparations to execute his master plan. The second episode was everything we could have asked for from the series – it had drama, technicality, suspense, and deceit.
On top of that, Studio Madhouse continues to prove why it is one of the most iconic names in the anime industry. The traditional animation style with minimalistic yet impactful effects brings new life to Shinobu Kaitani’s masterpiece in Episode 2.
Spoiler Alert !!!
Heavy spoilers from Liar Game Episode 2 up ahead.
Akiyama Surveillance Uncovers the Money’s Location
Episode 2 starts in a way that none of us were expecting – the honest and innocent girl, Nao Kanzaki, declaring war on Fujisawa and claiming that she is ready to play the game and steal the 200 million yen from him. While it was completely out of the blue, the narrative revealed that it was the first part of Shinichi’s plan. The second part of the plan was surveillance.
To keep up with the mental pressure, Shinichi and Nao started keeping tabs on Fujisawa’s home. However, Nao was quickly scared off as Fujisawa called the police on her car. To make things more convenient, Shinichi leases an apartment on the opposite side of Fujisawa’s house and makes sure the latter knows about it. Then begins the long wait for several days as the two of them keep an eye on Fujisawa through the window.
While Nao becomes skeptical at times about what Shinichi was actually planning, he explains to her that, by process of elimination and Fujisawa’s movements, it’s clear that the money is not in the bank, but rather in his home. But, they still needed to pinpoint the exact location. But when it’s Akiyama, there is something bound to happen.
Akiyama came up with the ingenious idea to smoke Fujisawa’s house and observe his movements. As he looked closely, it was pretty much deduced that the money was in the main room, and both Akiyama and Nao confronted Fujisawa regarding the revelation. While partially in shock, Fujisawa proudly reveals that they were correct and even shows them the concealed safe, where the entire 200 million yen was.
Paranoia Becomes the True Weapon That Rattles Fujisawa
Liar Game Episode 2 | Credits: MadhouseWhile Fujisawa was expecting to rattle both of them with his safe, Akiyama just smirked and claimed that it doesn’t matter, and he is going to steal the money anyway. As the two of them left the premises, Fujisawa was left in extreme paranoia, brainstorming every possibility of the money being stolen from the safe.
Even Nao becomes a little disheartened with the safe, but Shinichi assures her and tells her to keep doing the usual surveillance, and he has a plan to get the money. As days pass, both Fujisawa and Nao become more anxious and paranoid as to what will happen. With only 55 minutes left before the Liar Game officially ends, Nao makes a last-ditch effort to convince Fujisawa, but her pleas fall on deaf ears as the bell rings.
Liar Game Episode 2 Final Verdict
Liar Game Episode 2 | Credits: MadhouseNow, coming to the analysis of the entire episode: Episode 2 was a really good continuation of the story, in my opinion. If you have already read the original manga, you’ll know just how accurately Madhouse stayed true to Shinobu Kaitani’s story, and it was really commendable. It surely feels amazing that in an age of bright lights and heavy effects, a traditional animation isn’t failing to make its mark.
Yes, for many, the pacing might feel a bit slow compared to other series that get into narratives pretty rapidly. If we look at it from a regular shonen or thriller anime series perspective, it’s slow. But if we look at it from a psychological thriller perspective, the pacing is just right and necessary. While the massive cliffhanger does bum me out a bit, it still feels like a need.

Liar Game Episode 2 Review: The Clock Keeps Ticking as the Mind Games Begin
The episode was a slow, but methodical burn as Akiyama starts his psychological warfare on Fujisawa. With the flow of the episode and the intriguing cliffhanger in the end, it was a brilliant watch and the perfect continuation the series could have.
