Nobody was expecting the jovial performer, whose past credits include headlining the main stage at Glastonbury, to crash the band’s set. But crash he did, grabbing an acoustic guitar and bringing the house down with both the Oasis ditty and the Creedence Clearwater Revival gem, Have You Ever Seen The Rain?

Even after a big arena gig that left fans impressed by his big voice and also opening act Joy Crookes, Capaldi still carried off the tunes with ease. Naturally, the audience certainly knew all the lyrics. It’s about as close as they’ll get to an Oasis show, so they cut loose. Capaldi has previously covered such hits as Every Time by Britney Spears and U2s I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, with Irish singer Niall Horan.

After the impromptu performance, Capaldi did the fans a favour by taking photos with fans and hanging about for a bit.
