Leverkusen to remove Eichhorn from squad over ongoing metabolic disorder

The talented 17-year-old, who arrived from Hertha BSC this summer, has been chopped from Leverkusen's squad for the first half of the season as he looks to overcome a metabolic issue.

Having been recently diagnosed with a metabolic disorder, Kennet Eichhorn will be sidelined indefinitely for Bayer Leverkusen.

Sport BILD understands that the 17-year-old new signing made this decision jointly with bosses at the Rhineland club.

The ongoing uncertainty about the length of the absence has led Leverkusen's management to take a drastic, but likely unavoidable, measure. 

This has resulted in Leverkusen removing the highly talented teenager “from their squad planning for the first half of the season”.

As a result, Eichhorn will not be nominated for the Europa League in the first half of the season, which has re-jigged the club's plans.

Players once considered for departures this summer are now expected to compete for the central midfield position left by Eichhorn.

Accordingly, only one of Equi Fernández, Aleix García or Robert Andrich are likely to be sold before the new Bundesliga campaign begins.
