I had to laugh when I read Lorrie Goldstein’s column “Do the math, Liberals — we need fossil fuels” (July 23) as in the next few pages of the paper you see the headlines “French are frying” and “Japan’s cities now cruelly hot.” Unless Goldstein is a climate change denier, I don’t know how he can ignore the ongoing worldwide soaring temperatures and resulting massive forest fires and dangerous air quality, such as in Toronto recently, caused principally by burning fossil fuels (at least according to the great majority of climate scientists). It is just common sense to phase out fossil fuel energy for clean energy such as wind, solar and nuclear as many countries are doing (e.g. Norway, Brazil, Sweden, etc.).

(He’s not denying anything – in fact Goldstein looks at the science everyday. Nuclear is an appropriate path forward, except the climate alarmists constantly oppose it)

FREE HANDOUT

Re “It’s high time to put U.S. alcohol back on Canadian shelves” (Jay Goldberg, July 17): If this protectionist policy violates CUSMA rules, we should reset. Otherwise, save it as a bargaining chip, like the dairy cartel, that hurts Canadians, but we can concede in return for a better deal. These are obviously important issues to the U.S.A. Also, I didn’t know that whiskey has a short shelf life. I have bottles in my cupboard more than ten years old. Many products are priced according to age. Rather than pour it out, at our expense, provinces should give a bottle to whiskey customers, based on the highest recent purchases.

(They can call it a US booze giveaway – the lineups would be massive)
