HAVE A LAUGH

With all the sadness and treachery happening around the world and Canada these days, it’s daily becoming more difficult to be happy and to feel the joy and wonder that life brings. To that end, I offer a tip of the hat to the Toronto Sun’s management for daily presenting the comics section. As a kid, I waited with great anticipation for the Saturday or Sunday comics. Now, as an old guy, the comics still bring me joy and laughter to help me through these dark days. Thanks again!

GROUND THE FLIGHTS

Re “Carney billed taxpayers $524Gs for in-flight catering” (Bryan Passifiume, April 11): It’s clear the prime minister doesn’t travel on our highly subsidized national airline where you get little pretzels and a glass of ersatz wine on a long-distance flight. Perhaps we should instigate different fare classes on government flights where any upgrade over economy is paid personally by the traveller. While we’re at it, put a carbon tax on all the miles that these government officials spend swooning around the globe. We’d be able to wipe out the national debt in no time.

(The Prime Minister has to travel we get that. But would it be difficult to just have some consideration for the cost?)

KEEP CALM

Re “Grit party stands for nothing” (Jamil Jivani, April 11): When power-hungry, inauthentic politicians vociferously defend flawed policies, one approach in opposition is to point to the error, suggest an alternative and stop debating. Let the outcome prove them wrong. Their continued rationalization is evidence of misleading motives. Common-sense voters will eventually wake up and kick the bums out. This takes time and patience, which are at a premium. But if we cannot win the battle, perhaps the British wartime attitude will prevail: Keep calm and carry on!

Larry Sylvester

(One would have thought after a decade of decline under the Liberals, the bums would have been tossed out. Yet here they are with a majority)
