As the actor unlocked a new chapter with his passion project, Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1, it was met with negative criticism, leaving the future of the four-part movie in doubt. However, a new report claims that his dismal failure of the Horizon project and his expensive divorce could force him to say adios to some of his valuable property.

Kevin Costner Would Reportedly Have to Let Go of His Valuable Property

The Dances with Wolves actor is reportedly facing a significant financial strain which could force him to part ways with his valuable real estate assets.

Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1 was supposed to be a big banger that would successfully launch the four-part movie saga but the outcome was otherwise.

The Western drama film failed to find its footing at the box office, leaving Kevin Costner to worry about the financial aspect. As per Life&Style Magazine, he is now facing a significant financial burden of $100 million bill due to the movie’s lackluster performance.

This figure includes not only production costs but also his personal investments in the project, with estimates suggesting he has poured $38 million of his own money into the film.

A source explained,

Kevin banked Horizon largely, but not entirely, on undeveloped California land he owns, and reality is starting to set in that he’s likely going to have to part with this real estate and also reshuffle his other holdings to remain solvent after the disappointing showing of the first film in this saga.

Insiders suggest that he may be forced to let go of his extensive property holdings, including his sprawling ranches in California, to remain financially solvent.

The first installment premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, receiving overwhelmingly negative reviews. Its dismal outcome concerned many about the viability of the subsequent installments. Critics have been quite blunt in sharing its review, raising questions about its appeal to audiences.

Kevin Costner’s Expensive Divorce Makes Matters Worse

While his passion project has seemingly troubled him financially, things are going off for him as he has also been navigating his recent divorce from Christine Baumgartner.

The former couple of nearly 19 years have reached a settlement with Costner to pay about $63,000 per month for their three children as child support.

After began dating in 1998, the duo got married at Costner’s Colorado ranch in 2004. However, their marriage couldn’t last long as Baumgartner’s filing listed that the duo were separated on April 11. The ex-couple share three children: sons Cayden, 16, and Hayes, 14, plus daughter Grace, 13.

In addition to the child support, the actor had to provide a large up-front payment to Baumgartner as part of their divorce settlement. A source told the same Life&Style mag,

Kevin’s divorce wasn’t cheap, he still gives his kids a lot of money, but this film investment has been a giant piano hanging over his head, and he’s not backing away.

While Costner focuses on the financial landscape, sources indicate that he is determined to complete the Horizon project, despite its rocky start.

He’s operating on a wing and a prayer but he’s also a realist who knows he’s going to have to part with some of his treasure to see this thing through to the end. But it’s going to be a tightrope walk, especially because Chapter 1 badly underperformed.

Ultimately, while Costner remains focused on his film ambitions, it would still be a difficult road to walk on since the actor had to balance his artistic vision carefully.
