Apple TV has renewed Widow’s Bay for a second season, the streamer announced on June 11, 2026, just six days ahead of the first season’s finale on June 17 (via Apple TV Press). The supernatural horror comedy series, starring Oscar-winner Matthew Rhys as the CEO of a superstitious New England town, wrapped production on its 10-episode debut season well before the renewal was approved.
Simultaneously with the renewal, Apple TV has announced a multi-year overall deal with series creator and showrunner Katie Dippold, for her to remain at the helm of Widow’s Bay as well as work on other projects. Here’s everything we know about the renewal.
All We Know About Widow’s Bay Season 2 on Apple TV
A still from Widow’s Bay | Credits: Apple TVAs mentioned, Apple TV has officially renewed the series for a second installment. However, no release date has been revealed. Moreover, the renewal wasn’t the only news to come from the announcement. Apple TV announced at the same time that it had signed a multi-year overall deal with the series creator, Katie Dippold. The deal keeps Dippold engaged on the platform for the foreseeable future, acting as showrunner for Widow’s Bay and spearheading new projects. Apple TV head of programming, Matt Cherniss, said the network can’t wait to go back for another series.
It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.
The show’s creepy mysteries, unexpected laughs, and complex plot all keep viewers talking. Even Callie Hanna of FandomWire rated Widow’s Bay a solid 9 out of 10. Meanwhile, Cherniss said they’re excited to go back for season 2. On what season 2 could entail, Dippold gave a pretty deadpan clue that if you watched the show, you would immediately know what she was talking about, phrasing that season 2 is when everything on the island is completely ok, and there’s nothing to worry about. He said:
Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about.
The compelling plot of Widow’s Bay Season 1 followed Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys, of Brothers & Sisters), from day one to day done, trying to sell his fast-falling apart, superstitious New England town as a picture-perfect holiday destination.
Not that he had much choice, with the weird stuff continually happening at every turn, bad Wi-Fi, and suspicion from the citizens, until finally, it worked. The strangers came for the holidays, and all the odd happenings that the residents warned him about are happening. He returns for a second season with Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, and Jeff Hiller. The show is shot at Apple Studios and executive produced by Hiro Murai under his Chum Films production company with Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin, and Rhys.
Murai directed five episodes in season 1, with Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung directing the rest.
