Is IO Interactive Teasing 007 First Light DLC? Here’s Everything We Know

007 First Light has only been out for a few days right now, but it might already be time to think about DLC. IO Interactive has had years of success supporting the Hitman franchise with post-launch content, and the studio’s take on James Bond should be no different.

While the studio has not officially announced a story expansion or paid DLC package, recent comments from the developers suggest post-launch support. Aside from developer interviews, we also have in-game teasers and references to future content. So if you enjoyed the latest James Bond adventure, it appears that 007 First Light may be just getting started.

IO Interactive Confirms Post-Launch Content Plans for 007 First Light

According to IO Interactive chief development officer Véronique Lallier, the studio views the launch of 007 First Light as “just the beginning.” She confirmed to Eurogamer that new Tactical Simulations (TacSim) content is already planned and that we can expect a roadmap of future updates.

TacSim is a special mode we can access from MI6 headquarters. With it, we can replay and remix parts of the game with new conditions. It’s basically a mission replay feature, but instead of just repeating them one to one, we can have new combat encounters, objectives, and gameplay rules within familiar locations.

Senior combat designer Tom Marcham also explained that TacSim gives the team the freedom to creatively reuse environments in ways that weren’t possible during the main campaign. Some of the challenges could even transform previous levels into something else entirely.

We can’t really doubt this approach, because that’s what the studio has already done with Hitman: World of Assassination, which has received years of additional content after launch. Of course, First Light is a more story-focused game and less sandbox-oriented than Hitman, but TacSim can have long-term replayability after the main story.

The developers also mentioned hopes that speedrunning communities will embrace TacSim’s leaderboard system, creating additional reasons for players to return regularly.

The Valhalla Protocol Could Be 007 First Light’s First DLC

Aside from these comments from the interview, players have also started to find hints of what appears to be the first major post-launch addition. After completing the main campaign, an in-game advertisement teases a future TacSim mission called The Valhalla Protocol.

Whatever it is, the studio hasn’t even mentioned a release date. But from what we know, the mission appears to focus on the heavily armed Aston Martin briefly featured during the story. The mission could include a larger vehicle-focused level focused on driving, combat, and destruction.

Although the studio has stopped short of calling it DLC, an update like that does fit the definition of post-launch content and could be the first example of what the game’s future roadmap has in store.

Post-launch content also makes sense given the game’s strong performance. According to the studio, First Light sold 1.5 million copies within its first 24 hours, becoming the fastest-selling title in the developer’s history. The game has also been received well critically, with review scores placing it among the highest-rated releases of 2026.

For now, no story DLC has been announced. However, based on these comments and hints, we can very well expect First Light to receive ongoing support well beyond its launch week.
