Is Billy Maximoff Stronger Than Wanda Maximoff?

The ending of Agatha All Along’s fourth episode revealed that the Teen was Billy Kaplan a.k.a Billy Maximoff all along. The character made his MCU debut in WandaVision as the Scarlet Witch’s son and his powers were also revealed in the Disney+ series. However, he was believed to have been eliminated after Wanda removed her hex at the end.

While there was a major theory tying in Billy Maximoff as the Teen in Agatha All Along, the show has now confirmed it and the midseason trailer has hinted at the return of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff. So, who is Billy Maximoff? What are his powers and who is he in the comics? And more importantly, is he stronger than his mother, the Scarlet Witch?

Who Is Billy Maximoff, a.k.a Billy Kaplan, In The Comics?

Much like Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch in the MCU, the comic version of the character also creates her twin sons Billy and Tommy Maximoff from a hex. According to Marvel.com, Wanda created the two children using two lost souls which ended up being part of Mephisto’s essence.

Though Mephisto tries to take back the souls of the children, they escape with the help of Wanda’s magic and reincarnate as Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shephard. The reincarnated twins are not siblings but their paths cross each other as both of them adopt superhero alter egos. Kaplan becomes Wiccan while Tommy becomes Speed.

In the comics, Wiccan a.k.a Billy Maximoff has magical powers, reality manipulation, the ability to track and locate, create illusions, telekinesis, astral projection, and more. He is also a founding member of the Young Avengers along with other heroes like Iron Lad, Hulkling, Patriot, Kate Bishop, and Cassie Lang. Hulkling is also his boyfriend.

Billy Kaplan, the reincarnated version of Maximoff, is the son of a psychologist and a cardiologist. After the Avengers’ disbandment, Wiccan becomes a founding member of the Young Avengers and, inspired by Thor, names himself the Asgardian. These happen before he discovers that he is a reincarnated Billy Maximoff.

Is Billy Kaplan/Maximoff Different In The MCU?

Billy Kaplan is first introduced as the Teen in the recent MCU series Agatha All Along. He joins Agatha Harkness on her journey through the Witches’ Road and becomes part of her coven of Witches. His identity in the series is hidden in mystery for the first five episodes, with a hex silencing him and stopping others from knowing who he really is.

At the end of the show’s fifth episode, the Teen reveals his true self as Billy Kaplan, the son of the Scarlet Witch, and even shows his magical abilities. He creates a crown for himself just like his mother and attacks Agatha. The midseason trailer for the show hinted that subsequent episodes would explore his identity more.

Billy Maximoff, the actual child of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda, is introduced in the show WandaVision. He is the result of the Westview hex, along with his twin brother Tommy. A reference to his eventual identity as Wiccan is hinted at in episode 6 of the show as he wears the hero’s suit as a Halloween costume.

Billy Maximoff’s powers are shown in subsequent episodes of the series, where he helps his mother during the attack on Westview. He displays prophetic abilities, mind control, telekinesis, energy beams, and more.

Wanda vs Billy Maximoff: Who Is Stronger? 

Wanda Maximoff is definitely one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe. Her brand of Chaos Magic is extremely powerful and can even rival that of Doctor Strange and the Sorcerer Supreme. She single-handedly massacred the Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which included heroes like Professor X, Mr. Fantastic, and Black Bolt.

However, the comics have established her son Billy Maximoff a.k.a Wiccan as more powerful than her. He is even canonically established to be more powerful than Dormammu, the ruler of the Dark Dimension. He is also destined to be an all-powerful magical entity known as the Demiurge in the comics. With the help of Teenage Loki and Hulkling, Billy is able to access some powers of his future self in the comics.
