The country music star recently shared emotional details about her strained relationship with her 30-year-old daughter, Grace Kelley, revealing that her successful music career is a major source of contention between them. 

Kelley’s string of legal issues eventually led to her incarceration at Rockingham County Jail in Harrisonburg, Virginia, after she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge.

During a candid interview on “The Shawn Ryan Show,” Judd spoke about her decision to stop giving money to her daughter, Kelley, after years of trying to help her fight a severe drug addiction.

The 62-year-old singer shared that she funded numerous rehabilitation programs and special schools before realizing her financial help was actually enabling the habit. 

She also explained that stepping back was the hardest choice of her life, but it became necessary to protect herself and her family.

“I had to let go and that means no more enabling, and it about killed me ‘cause when your kid calls and says, ‘I’m hungry,’ what do you do?” she revealed, per People Magazine.

Judd also explained that Kelley is currently angry with her for having a successful career that took her attention away. 

“And Grace is really mad at me right now,” the country singer shared. “Because I had a career, and I was busy, and she didn’t have enough of me in the beginning. I did the best I could. I’ve made a lot of mistakes, and she’s really mad at me for stepping in with her child.”

This isn’t the first time Judd has opened up about her relationship with her daughter. In early October, Judd previously admitted the deep personal toll caused by constant fear over her child’s safety.

According to The Blast, the singer described how her concern for Kelley consumed her everyday life and work routine. She recalled feeling so overwhelmed by fear that she would break down in tears whenever leaving home to perform. 

However, over time, watching her child go in and out of trouble forced the star to accept she couldn’t fix her daughter’s problems on her own. “I had to learn I can’t save her,” she said.

Wynonna Judd Learned About Grace Kelley’s Pregnancy On Social Media

Adding to her heartache over their estrangement, the singer revealed she was completely shocked after discovering her daughter’s second pregnancy through social media.

Despite dedicating financial efforts to help her child over the years, the country star felt deeply heartbroken to find out about her second grandchild from online video clips rather than a direct phone call.

She called Kelley her “love,” and expressed grief over her addiction to meth, as reported by The Blast.

Judd also admitted that she misses her daughter terribly every single day. She noted that while it remains incredibly painful to watch from a distance, she has no choice but to pray for healing and focus on raising her granddaughter in a safe, loving environment.

Judge Denied Grace Kelley’s Furlough Request as Release Date Approaches

Adding to the legal hurdles surrounding her pregnancy, court filings revealed that Kelley was denied temporary release from prison ahead of giving birth.

According to The Blast, attorneys representing the 30-year-old submitted a formal motion requesting a brief temporary furlough from the Rockingham County Jail in Harrisonburg, Virginia, for her August delivery date. 

However, a judge rejected the petition, requiring her to remain in custody while completing a 15-month sentence following a driving-related conviction. 

Notably, court records confirm that Judd continues to care for her granddaughter, Kaliyah Grace, back home while Kelley serves her sentence. 

Grace Kelley Accused Her Mother Of Childhood Cover-Up Involving Former Stepfather

Judd and Kelley’s complex relationship goes as far back as August 2025, when Kelley brought forward severe personal allegations against her mother regarding past childhood trauma.

The Blast reported that Kelley accused her former stepfather, D.R. Roach, of assaulting her when she was ten years old.

She claimed that her famous mother tried to keep the matter quiet rather than going straight to law enforcement. Kelley also alleged that authorities learned of the situation only after it came up during a private counseling session.

“I don’t want to talk about my mom, but we’ll just say she’s a good performer. She was never a mother,” she said. 

Roach was arrested in 2007 and later pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated sexual battery. Judd filed for divorce shortly after his arrest made national news.
