Jonathan Newell, the student accused of participating in the gang rape of a female student at Cornell University, has been barred from his new campus a couple of months after his enrollment.

Newell had enrolled at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale after he was expelled from Cornell University as a fallout from the university’s investigation into the alleged sexual assault.

The institution seems to have faced pressure to address concerns surrounding his presence at the university, as the jane doe’s civil lawsuit brought renewed scrutiny to Jonathan Newell and the rest of the so-called “Cornell 7.”

Why ‘Cornell 7’ Frat Bro Jonathan Newell Was Barred From Nova Southeastern University

Nope. You cannot convince me that frat brothers organically walked into separate police interviews using the same word, “consensual,” and that it wasn’t coordinated.

According to the Daily Mail, Newell was ordered to stay away from Nova Southeastern last week after complaints from anxious parents.

Harry Moon, president of the Florida University, reportedly confirmed in a statement on Monday that they had taken measures regarding the reported sexual abuse allegations connected to a student whom he didn’t mention by name.

“We are all concerned about reports of serious allegations of sexual abuse that occurred approximately two years ago at another university and may involve a student who later transferred to NSU,” the statement read.

He added that the university was taking the allegations seriously and that “the safety and well-being of each member of our campus community is a top priority.”

Moon claimed the school wasn’t aware of the incident when he enrolled and said, “Because this matter involves federal law regarding an individual student, the university is legally restricted by federal regulations that limit what the university can share.

The university president gave assurance to the concerned parents, saying that the institution remains vigilant and that, because of the steps they’ve taken, they aren’t aware there is “any current threat to the university community with regard to the matter.”

About The Disturbing October 2024 Incident During Which Jonathan Newell Allegedly Sent A ‘Free P-ssy’ Message

The allegations following Newell and getting him removed from United States universities stem from the incident that took place at the Chi Phi fraternity house in Ithaca on October 19, 2024.

On the night of that fateful day, a then 20-year-old female Cornell University student walked into the fraternity house to meet a friend who had invited her to a party held there.

The woman currently identified as Jane Doe in court documents alleged in a civil lawsuit that she was coerced into taking ketamine and plied with alcohol and marijuana before being sexually assaulted by members of the frat house.

Newell, who was implicated in the lawsuit filed by Doe, reportedly sent a message in the fraternity’s Snapchat group advertising her as being open for sexual encounters. “Free p-ssy in alum pu,” He allegedly wrote.

In a separate report by the Daily Mail, one of the fraternity group chat members wrote, “I f-cking love chi phi,” and another informed everyone that, “You can walk in and whip it out.” A third asked if the “shop” was still open.

The lawsuit alleges that seven of the fraternity members now dubbed the “Cornell 7” participated in sexual activity with Doe while she was too mentally incapacitated to give consent.

Cornell University Expelled Jonathan Newell After Investigating The Incident

Cornell University President Michael I. Kotlikoff said Saturday his school’s administration "must do better" amid the criticism and fallout of its investigation into allegations made by a former student that she was gang-raped at a fraternity in 2024. He said he welcomes the independent review by an outside law firm into aspects of the university’s handling of the 2024 incident. "I want to acknowledge something that can be difficult for an institution to say: we don’t have all the answers, but we are committed to investigating and finding the answers our community deserves," Kotlikoff said. He also said the board of trustees will announce the private investigation next week.

Cornell University conducted its own investigation when the allegations were first reported in 2024, almost a month after the alleged assault took place.

According to People Magazine, a three-member disciplinary panel at Cornell punished the seven accused after finding them responsible for sexual abuse.

Newell, who allegedly sent the crude advertisement and was accused of manipulating the victim into taking ketamine as well as hitting her on her rear end hard enough to leave bruises, was expelled along with fellow accused student Matthew Ingalls.

A member accused of forcing oral sex on the alleged victim and another accused of having sex with Doe without consent were both suspended.

One of the members implicated in the lawsuit had already graduated but was barred from campus grounds for three years.

The remaining two who allegedly entered the room after Newell’s Snapchat message were reportedly ordered to turn in essays concerning sexual harassment and bystander intervention.

New York Lost Faith In Local Authorities Handling Of The Case

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed the Attorney General of the state, Letitia James, as a special prosecutor in the state because she had lost faith in how Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten handled the case.

According to the Associated Press, Hochul said, “This woman, this young woman, had already endured something that is utterly unspeakable.” She added that Doe was failed by “people and institutions” who were supposed to protect her.

Van Houten had previously declined to pursue charges after he saw a summary of Doe’s interview with campus police.

The D.A. stated that materials he had received suggested that Doe had engaged in consensual sex with multiple men and didn’t indicate that she had been forced or was too helpless to consent.

He later reopened the case following her recent lawsuit, which reportedly contained allegations he had never seen and argued that Cornell police withheld information that would have been important.

Van Houten said, “Seeking justice sometimes requires us to reconsider or reopen cases when we are provided with additional evidence.”

Cornell Students Protest As They Demand Change At Their University

Students at Cornell University reportedly assembled to discuss how the university handled the sexual assault allegations, with some sharing their own experience with sexual abuse on campus.

In the AP report, Jane Wang, who was reportedly a sexual abuse victim, had filed a Title IX case where she was met with “an abundance of paperwork, very little instruction on how to navigate it, and no follow-up from our Title IX office on an outcome.”

Student organizations outraged over the way the university handled the situation planned a protest to advocate for changes to Cornell’s sexual assault policies.

Michael Kotlikoff, the Cornell President, promised greater transparency and said the gang rape allegations were “deeply disturbing.”
