Yuki Tabata Explains Why He Switched to Jump GIGA

Black Clover’s popularity had recently skyrocketed when Yuki Tabata decided to switch from Weekly Shonen Jump to Jump GIGA because of how he struggled to meet the strict weekly deadlines. The idea of him jumping ships was the biggest quality of life change that made the show become infectiously popular among the new fans.

However, when compared with the author of One Piece, Tabata-Sensei lacks the sheer dedication, which in a subtle way is needed to make their work become a work that defines two generations!

This was evident when he made the announcement of switching to Jump GIGA via Reddit, where he claimed that the “increasing demands” clashed with his situation as an author. The statement read,

Despite apologizing to the fans for not being able to “finish the serialisation in Weekly Shonen Jump,” he ensured that switching the work style would enable him to come up with better ideas and a better conclusion, which is more important to the fans.

This notion was especially true after the Otaku community was disappointed with the subpar ending of MHA and JJK. Though fans are happy for him, some are annoyed because some new-gen fans believe Yuki Tabata and Eiichiro Oda are on the same level in terms of being manga artists.

Eiichiro Oda’s Dedication Can NEVER Be Rivalled by Another Mangaka

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has been the most influential Shonen series that has been present since 1997, and it is not even close to nearing its end. It was present during The Big Three Era and has continued to sail past the popularity that followed new-gen series like Blue Lock, My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, and many more.

The series continued to stay relevant and why would it not? After all, Oda-Sensei would feature an expansive world with layered characters and a storyline that would make the fans sit at the edge of their seats and wonder, “What’s going to happen in the next chapter?”

The commitment towards the title is unmatched, and to think that he has been doing it on a weekly basis for the last 27 years makes it all the more impressive.

Although the mangaka would take frequent breaks after a few chapters, the hiatus would not last more than 3 weeks, which is enough for him to rejuvenate his creative muscles and come up with an arc that holds the power to break the internet.

The only period when One Piece went on a long break was in the summer of 2023, when the mangaka underwent eye surgery, as he had previously been suffering from eyesight issues. Hence, making him the most consistent storyteller in the genre.

Interestingly, fans would not mind the artist going on a break because they have seen how reckless he gets, especially when he neglects his health to work on the series. No other artist has ever shown such dedication, hence putting him in a league of his own.
