Sonic the Hedgehog has been a cherished part of childhood memories for millions around the globe. Though the initial design of the live-action Sonic stirred up some mixed reactions from fans, the movies have gone on to become runaway hits at the box office. The latest installment, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, is currently lighting up theaters and exceeding expectations with its success at the box office.

After the success of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Carrey hinted at retirement, joking that he’d only come back for a script “written in gold ink by angels.” Well, it seems the angels delivered, because he is back in top form for the third installment.

And as for Carrey? He’s game to return as long as the story keeps him intrigued, and they keep calling him back. He said to Cinema Today,
Of course there’s a possibility [that he will appear in the fourth movie]–If I get the next idea, I’ll consider it, and if the content is interesting, I’ll come back as Robotnik. I never turn down a role unless I’m not interested. I love this crew, and it’s fun to make movies with them.
Sonic 4 is definitely happening, but it seems the Angels will need to double their efforts to craft something extraordinary to keep Jim Carrey intrigued for a fourth outing. And if that doesn’t do the trick, you can bet Paramount will pull out all the stops to win him over!

Paramount clearly knows a thing or two about persuading Jim Carrey. During the promotions for Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the actor casually announced his retirement from acting. Cut to now, and not only is he back, but he’s pulling double duty with two roles in Sonic 3! So, was a script “written in gold ink by angels” really enough to lure him back?
Apparently, Paramount sweetened the deal with more than just hiring angles to write the script. According to Showbiz Galore, Carrey reportedly walked away with a cool $12 million for his performance. While the exact number remains unconfirmed, splashing out that kind of cash to bring a superstar like Carrey out of retirement seems like a justifiable price to pay.

According to Collider, the movie has already crossed $150 million at the domestic box office and is nearing a $250 million haul worldwide. With numbers like that, bringing Carrey back for a fourth film shouldn’t be a problem for the studio!
