Elon Musk ranks among the world’s richest people and also one of the smartest. Musk’s wealth is primarily built with his role in SpaceX and Tesla, Inc. among other business interests. While Musk’s celebrity status means he is often in the news because of his personal life, the businessman has never shied away from speaking about struggling with a neurodevelopmental disorder.

During a few public appearances, Musk openly discussed dealing with the symptoms of autism, primarily Asperger’s syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, Musk isn’t the only celebrity to face symptoms of ASD. Instead, actors Anthony Hopkins and Wentworth Miller also share the condition, and here is what the celebrities had to say about their diagnosis.

Elon Musk often makes waves with his political comments and business ventures, which has earned him a celebrity status. However, when Musk made a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live, the businessman chose to reveal a piece of rather personal information about himself. He said:

I won’t make a lot of eye contact with the cast tonight. But don’t worry, I’m pretty good at running ‘human’ in emulation mode.

From his words, Musk seems to suggest that he deals with the two most prominent symptoms of ASD.

According to the Autism Speaks website, trouble with making eye contact and mirroring the mannerisms of neurotypical people are common symptoms of ASD. As a result, it is safe to say that Musk admitted to struggling with the neurodevelopmental disorder.

In a later conversation at TED 2022, Musk spoke in detail about his struggle with ASD, admitting that he was inept at picking up social cues like most others around him. However, Musk admitted that this only made him more bookish and also helped with his career.

Aside from Musk some of the other more prominent celebrities to publically speak about their struggles with ASD include the legendary Sir Anthony Hopkins. The actor has won two Best Actor Academy Awards but admitted that his struggles with ASD made him question his career choices. He said (via Desert Sun):

Well, I’ve been diagnosed with Asperger’s, but I’m high end. A lot of people with Asperger’s are highly functional, but inconsistent.

Hopkins explained that struggled with years of deep insecurity and curiosity because of his diagnosis but the Hannibal Lecter actor ultimately felt that he made the right career choice.

Similarly, The Flash star Wentworth Miller has also spoken out about being diagnosed with autism. In a long-deleted Instagram post from 2021 (as per People), Miller posted the following statement about his diagnosis.

This fall marks 1 year since I received my informal autism diagnosis. Preceded by a self-diagnosis. Followed by a formal diagnosis.

The actor who first gained prominence with his role in the thriller series Prison Break revealed that he was shocked by the diagnosis but not entirely surprised. At the same time, Miller admitted that it was a privilege to be diagnosed that not many people enjoy but limited his words as he did not want to be an ill-informed voice on the sensitive subject.
