SUMMARY

  • Devastating wildfires in Los Angeles have disrupted the city, affecting 180,000 residents and halting Amazon's Fallout Season 2 production.
  • Production of Fallout Season 2, which garnered critical acclaim in its first season, is delayed as fires ravage multiple filming sites.
  • The wildfires, fueled by strong winds and possibly linked to climate change, highlight the need for immediate environmental action.

Tragic scenes have been coming out recently from the City of Angels as the California wildfires rage on. As the fires of apocalyptic proportions blaze, major production studios such as Amazon, CBS, Warner Bros., and others have halted the productions of several projects including Amazon’s Fallout.

The rampaging fires in Los Angeles have caused havoc forcing as many as 180,000 people to evacuate the iconic city. This also includes prominent stars like Mark Hamill and Mandy Moore. With Fallout gearing up for its second season, the halt will be a blow to Amazon which was looking to get it up and running as fast as it could. Fallout saw a viewership high of over 60 million during its initial 16 days of airing. Nominated for 17 Emmys, it was a surprise hit for both fans and non-fans of the iconic Bethesda game.

What caused the wildfires that halted Fallout’s production?

Fallout was renewed for a second season in April 2024 and filming began shortly after. The show, adapted from Bethesda’s Fallout series, was a major hit for Amazon Prime Video. During the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, Fallout was up for 17 nominations including the nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. The show’s lead actor, Walton Goggins, also received a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Production for Fallout was supposed to resume on the 8th of January after a winter break. However, the fires have disrupted this plan and Fallout’s makers have been forced to a halt in production. The exact reason for the fires is still being investigated. However, TIME reports that experts believe climate change to be a factor as temperatures and humidity in the city have seemingly increased.

How soon will Fallout’s production resume?

Prime Video had postponed the production of Fallout to resume on January 10th, however, that seems unlikely as the fires haven’t subsided yet. It increasingly looks like the restart of Fallout will take a while as the fires have spread quite a bit. There have been five different sites that have been affected and the most prominent of these is the Palisades Fire. This particular fire grew to more than 20,000 acres according to authorities according to NBC News.

It is terrible to see the City of Angels look like a set taken straight from Fallout. Climate change can have drastic effects on our world and events like these are a grim reminder. If this isn’t fixed soon, our world will head to a future similar to Fallout. Hopefully, these fires will be put out soon, and Los Angeles will bounce back stronger than ever while inspiring the world to take meaningful action against climate change.

Fans of Fallout can stream the first season of the show on Amazon Prime Video. Set around 200 years in the future, the live-action adaptation of Bethesda’s game focuses on a post-apocalyptic Earth recovering from a nuclear armageddon.
