"I didn't mean it that way" – Karl offers apology to Elversberg fans for goal celebration

The youngster said that his 'shush' celebration was not directed at SV Elversberg fans who he feels misinterpreted the situation.

Lennart Karl has apologized to SV Elversberg fans after his goal celebration in Bayern Munich's 2-1 win created tension in the stands.

Putting the German champions 1-0 up just before the break, Karl celebrated by running off while placing his index finger to his lips.

Interpreted as a taunt by home supporters, the talented Bavarian winger was subsequently booed for the remainder of the match.

"It's emotions. I'm sorry if you misunderstood me – I didn't mean it that way," Karl explained in his post-match interview.

“Most football fans know that it's emotions and that it's simply part of football. I'm sorry,” he added before describing his goal. 

“Yes, luckily I was at the far post. I was a bit lucky that I got the ball, that it slipped through and then the finish was good,” he concluded. 

Returning to winning ways, Vincent Kompany's side will return to München and get ready for next Friday's clash with 1.FC Union Berlin.
