The world of Hunter x Hunter is completely ruled by the intricate power system known as Nen. The power system essentially lets a living being control their life energy, known as Aura. It is used to fuel supernatural powers, enhance physical strength, and perform extraordinary feats. So what is a Specialist Nen then?

Specialist Nen in Hunter x Hunter is a unique category of aura whose abilities do not fit into the other five standard types: Enhancement, Transmutation, Emission, Manipulation, and Conjuration. Only a few characters belong to his elite classification. Without further ado, here are the strongest out of them in our opinion, and ranked accordingly as well.

Ability: Lovely Ghostwriter

Neon can’t throw a punch to save her life, but Lovely Ghostwriter doesn’t need muscle to be valuable. Hand it a name, blood type, and birthday, and an unseen force guides her hand to scrawl out a vaguely worded but reliably accurate prophecy.

It’s exactly why Chrollo went out of his way to steal the ability for himself during the Yorknew City Arc, leaving Neon essentially powerless afterward. Great for planning, useless in an actual fight. Zero combat application puts her at the very bottom of a list that’s mostly about surviving confrontations.

9 Pakunoda Reads Minds And Rewrites Memories With A Single Touch

Ability: Psychometry and Memory Bomb

Pakunoda’s Psychometry lets her pull the truest, purest memories out of anyone she touches, which made her one of the best anime villain groups, the Phantom Troupe’s go-to for interrogation and blackmail. She can go further with Memory Bomb, firing a person’s own memories back into their skull hard enough to erase them.

It’s a brutal information-gathering combo, and she used it on herself in her final moments to hand the Troupe crucial intel about Kurapika. Just don’t expect her to win a straight fistfight. Information is powerful, but with almost nothing offensive built into her Hatsu, she sits at 9th, near the bottom of this ranking.

8 Leol Borrows Whatever Power He Wants, But Never Keeps It Long

Ability: Rental Pod

Leol got his Specialist status the hard way, spending 72 hours wrapped in one of Pouf’s cocoons until Nen just sort of happened to him. Rental Pod works a lot like Chrollo’s Skill Hunter, letting him temporarily borrow someone else’s ability instead of stealing it outright.

The problem is the clock: whatever he takes disappears after sixty minutes, so he’s constantly working against a countdown that Chrollo never has to worry about. A shorter leash on an otherwise similar power keeps him ranked well below the Phantom Troupe leader he’s often compared to, at 8th.

7 Meleoron Turns Assassination Into A Truly Invisible Art Form

Ability: God’s Accomplice and Perfect Plan

Meleoron isn’t winning any strength contests, but Perfect Plan makes him borderline unkillable. As long as he holds his breath, he vanishes from every sense a Chimera Ant or Nen user has: sight, smell, even that sixth-sense instinct predators rely on.

His upgrade, God’s Accomplice, extends that invisibility to anyone touching him, no held breath required on their end. It’s how he and Knuckle survived an arc that chewed up far stronger fighters. One breath and it’s over, but used right, it turns him into a ghost. Utility this absurd deserves real credit, even if it can’t trade blows, which is why it lands squarely in the middle of the pack, at 7th.

6 Kurapika’s Scarlet Eyes Unlock A Whole New Nen Type Entirely

Ability: Emperor Time

Kurapika, one of the most popular HxH characters in Japan, spends most of his time as a Conjurer, but flip that switch to scarlet-eyed rage and Emperor Time kicks in, briefly making him a full Specialist at 100% efficiency across every category at once. That’s when Judgment Chain comes out, a conditional death sentence he can plant in someone’s heart with rules only he controls.

It’s devastating, but it costs him dearly every time, and he can’t stay in that state forever without burning himself out. It’s temporary and self-punishing, which is exactly why he lands in the middle, at 6th, rather than the top of this ranking.

5 Morena Prudo Infects A Whole Army That Levels Up By Killing

Ability: Contagion

Morena doesn’t fight her own battles; she builds an army that does. A kiss from her spreads Contagion, marking up to twenty-two followers who gain aura and eventually their own Hatsu every time they kill, with royalty worth the most points.

It’s less a single technique and more a slow-motion invasion, and she’s already leveled up plenty of Heil-Ly followers into genuine threats aboard the Black Whale. Nobody’s even seen her fight directly yet, and that’s arguably the scariest part. Ranking a scheme that multiplies itself into dozens of powered killers at 5th above most direct combatants just makes sense.

4 Alluka Zoldyck’s Wish-Granting Power Answers To No Rulebook

Ability: Nanika

Alluka isn’t the one fighting, but Nanika, the mysterious Dark Continent entity sharing her body, might be the scariest thing and the most unique Nen ability in Hunter x Hunter. Ask correctly and follow the rules, and Nanika can grant nearly any wish, resurrection included, no strings on what’s possible, only on how you ask. Break a rule, and the punishment is brutal and immediate.

Killua spent years guarding his sibling from people who wanted to weaponize this, and honestly, that fear made total sense once you see what Nanika can actually do. An ability with functionally no known limits sits dangerously close to the top at fourth, held back only by how strictly its rules have to be followed.

3 Neferpitou Heals Any Wound And Still Outfights Almost Everyone

Ability: Doctor Blythe And Terpsichora

Pitou is proof a Specialist doesn’t have to be subtle to be terrifying. Doctor Blythe conjures a hulking surgeon-doll that can patch up nearly any injury, which is how Pitou kept resurrecting Kite just to keep the fight going. Switch it off and Terpsichora kicks in instead, cranking Pitou’s already monstrous Chimera Ant body into something that can trade blows with Gon and Killua at once.

Chairman Netero himself admitted this Royal Guard might have surpassed him in raw power. Few Specialists combine this much brute combat strength with a built-in safety net, which is exactly why Pitou ranks this high in the top three.

2 Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou Watches The Future Before It Happens

Ability: Parallel Future

Give this guy a few days with Nen, and he’s already lapping veterans twice his age. Parallel Future lets him glimpse exactly 10 seconds into the future, creating a parallel reality where he can react to events before they happen. Togashi’s own narration calls him someone who should never have picked up Nen in the first place, which tells you everything about how dangerous this prince really is.

He hasn’t shown up in the anime yet, but the manga treats him as a walking countdown to disaster. A prophecy ability that only gets stronger with time, paired with a mind built to exploit every second of warning, puts Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou comfortably at number two.

1 Chrollo Lucilfer Turns Any Rival’s Best Weapon Against Them

Ability: Skill Hunter

Chrollo Lucilfer doesn’t need his own tricks when he can just take yours. Skill Hunter, an ability more broken than Yhwach’s The Almighty, lets him watch an ability, ask its user a few pointed questions, then press his hand to the book, and it’s his forever. He’s used it to swipe abilities from Uvogin’s victims and even threatened the Chimera Ants with it.

The catch is he needs an hour and total focus, so he’s vulnerable mid-theft, but as the Phantom Troupe’s brain, he rarely gets caught slipping. He tops this list because there’s no ceiling on Skill Hunter – whatever the strongest Nen ability in the series turns out to be, Chrollo can simply go take it.
