ITEM: A trio from Hamilton — including a wanted Pakistani national — were arrested in New York State for allegedly trying to smuggle 89 guns into Canada.
We are way beyond anecdotal evidence that the immigration policies of the last decade are a cataclysmic failure, putting all of us in jeopardy.
Faizan Ali: Poster boy
But if want a poster boy for ridiculous judges, astonishingly lax immigration policies and a potpourri of other failures, you need look no further than Faizan Ali.

The 25-year-old was pinched in the rolling arsenal bust in the Empire State, along with buddies Malik Bromfield and Kamal Salman. Cops say the objective was to smuggle the guns into Canada and onto the streets with the morgue being the end of the line.
But Ali — the Harrison Ford to the others’ Denholm Elliot and John-Rhys Davies — is the superstar of the caper. He’s been on the run from cops in Hamilton since 2024 in connection with the death of a motorcyclist. And he even has a street name to signify: Deezy.

He was also facing an 11-year sentence for weapons and drug offences. But wait! He was released on bail and didn’t show up for the sentencing.

The first thing you should know is that Ali is a citizen of Pakistan.
Normally, an 11-year-sentence should theoretically eliminate bail for a non-citizen. Well, you’re wrong.
So buddy cuts off his ankle monitor and lives his best life for another two years, no doubt being a good deed doer. The details of his sentencing report are almost too dreary to sift through.
Faizan a super-duper guy
Of course, there is an uncle and his parents assuring us that, no, really, Faizan Ali is a super-duper guy. His mother did note that “her son is the only one in the family” who made “unfavourable choices.” His sisters and cousins are successful.
“Mr. Ali’s uncle and his parents described him in terms antithetical to the conduct and behaviour proved against him and I place little weight on those descriptions,” the judge noted.

There’s the roster of guns, fleeing the scene of a fatal accident, the meth, the breaches of probation and a litany of other sleazeball behaviour.

And yet, Faizan Ali, an unrepentant criminal remained our problem until Friday when he was pinched near Liberty, N.Y., transporting a slew of guns, with at least 17 of them stolen, police said. And now, his brazenness will cost him dearly.
Ali was facing 11 years in a cushy Canadian prison where the caring professions would see his time was not onerous and he’d be back on the street, lickety split. Then when it was time to kick his butt out the door?

Some activist judge like Avvy Go or Renhu Mandane would then twist the law like a contortionist to let Faizan Ali stay in the country. Instead, he tried to make a score in the U.S.
When New York State Police troopers searched him they discovered an expired Pakistani driving permit concealed in his buttocks.
No, if convicted Ali will do his time in a U.S. federal prison. The Americans will be less enthusiastic about his lived experiences, racism and other grievances that have little to do with reality.
Americans again doing our job
And then?
He’s not a Canadian citizen so at that point he will have his butt booted back to Pakistan. Ali will be admissable.
Once again, it seems the Americans are doing our job for us.
Trudeau trooper and Ontario Superior Court of Justice Faisal Mirza must be weeping.
