LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight features various outfits inspired by different comics and movies from Batman’s history, but one of the best (if not the best) ones has to be the Absolute Batman suit. Even though the outfit is free, it will require you to work for it. To unlock it, you must unlock the Escaped Zoo Animal system through story progression and then capture them.
This process is not very simple, as it requires both main story progression and careful exploration across multiple districts in Gotham City. Let’s dive into how to unlock the Escaped Zoo Animal system and the Absolute Batman suit in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
How to Unlock and Find 9 Escaped Creatures in LEGO Batman
9 animals later… Batman suddenly becomes Absolute. | Credits: TT GamesBefore you look around to find and start collecting escaped animals, you must first unlock the system through story progression. The Escaped Zoo Animal activity does not become available immediately and is tied to early campaign missions. To unlock it, you must:
- Reach Chapter 2
- Complete the “On the Prowl” mission
- During this mission, you will place a tracker on a polar bear at the zoo
- Finish the main mission “Arctic World.”
After completing these steps, the Escaped Zoo Animal activity becomes available across Gotham City, allowing animals to spawn in different districts. You also start with 1 tracked animal from the introductory mission, meaning you only need 8 additional animals to reach the required total of 9.
While there are 21 escaped animals available in total, only 9 are required to unlock the suit. Each animal behaves differently: some remain stationary and are easy to tag, while others will flee if they detect you. For example, meerkats and toucans are simple to capture since they do not run away, while zebras and penguins require stealth.
You may need to crouch, approach slowly, or use rooftops and ledges to drop behind them without being seen (use the grapple hook and the glider). Without further ado, here are the 8 Escaped Zoo Animals spread across different Gotham City districts:
| Zebra | Old Gotham South (near Daily Grind store) | Requires stealth, will run if spotted |
| Meerkats | Grand Park | Stationary, easy to track |
| Penguins | Old Gotham South | Flee on sight, use rooftops for stealth |
| Tiger | Old Gotham West (statue area) | Slow roaming pattern, sneak behind |
| Toucan | Old Gotham West (fountain) | Does not move |
| Parrots | Cauldron North (factory rooftops) | Found at multiple heights |
| Bear | Tricorner (crate area) | Approach from behind carefully |
| Cobras | Construction site near GCPD | Spread across multiple levels |
Once you successfully track a total of 9 animals, the requirement for unlocking the suit will be complete.

After collecting 9 Escaped Zoo Animals, you can unlock and equip the suit from Batman’s customization menu. To equip it, follow these steps:
- Open the Options menu
- Go to Characters
- Select Batman
- Open the Suit selection menu
- Choose Absolute Batman
The suit will typically appear near the top of the list due to alphabetical ordering. If you’re wondering where this Absolute Batman suit comes from, it is based on a modern multiverse version of Batman introduced in the comics in 2024.
This version of Bruce Wayne comes from a darker, more extreme universe where Gotham and its characters are reimagined in a harsher and more intense way. Despite lacking traditional wealth and resources, this Batman relies on determination and raw intensity, making the suit one of the most unique interpretations included in the game.
That’s everything you need to know to unlock the Absolute Batman suit in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. It takes a bit of story progression, patience, and animal tracking across Gotham, but the reward is one of the most unique Batman looks in the game.
