Sure, the Rope in the game has everything from combat preparation to base building covered, but the Rope Gun focuses on helping you cross large distances and gaps quickly that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. So, here’s a deep dive into how you can acquire the Rope Gun in Sons of the Forest.

Where to Find the Rope Gun in Sons of the Forest?

The Rope Gun is located deep inside a cave on the western part of the island in Sons of the Forest. You can find the location marked on the image above, so begin from there and enter the cave. You won’t need any special items or tools to enter this cave, but you can carry weapons if you want. Head inside the cave and follow the path forward. Once you jump down, hug the left wall and keep heading along the left path until you come across corpses.

There’ll be a passage on your right blocked by a large creature, so pick up the Sticky Bombs near the corpse and throw them at the blocked path to clear it. It’s worth noting that at this point, Mutants will start to appear, and you can either dispatch them or evade them. After you’ve cleared the block passageway, go through it and keep heading straight. Either avoid the Mutants and the babies in pursuit or kill them before proceeding.

As long as you see hanging bodies above, you’re on the right track. The path ahead will narrow and curve to the right. Head forward until you notice a brightly lit area with skeletons suspended from the ceiling. Follow along this path, and you’ll come across multiple hanging construction workers. Now, you’ll be on an elevated path that splits into two directions. Take the left path and continue along.

Once you’re out of the sloped-up path, you should be seeing Solafite on your left. Take the left path and keep heading forward. Avoid the babies and crouch through the small hole in the wall. Head right, hugging the right wall, and crouch whenever required. Keep heading right until you see lights. Follow these lights, and you’ll reach a ledge in front of which lies the Rope Gun inside an open crate.

After you’ve acquired the Rope Gun, use it to zipline to the ground. Follow along this path until you reach the cave exit, and now you have the Rope Gun in your possession in Sons of the Forest.

What to Use the Rope Gun for in Sons of the Forest?

The Rope Gun lets you shoot a Zipline Rope, allowing you to cross large gaps and reach higher areas or descend from them. It’s extremely useful and makes traversal that much easier. If you don’t have Zipline Ropes, you can easily create one by combining a printed Grappling Hook and a Rope. Zipline Ropes can also be found inside supply crates in Sons of the Forest.

Using the Rope Gun is incredibly straightforward. Make sure you have a Zipline Rope loaded. Then aim and shoot it at a valid surface to attach the first end of the zipline. Now shoot near your feet or another valid surface to pin the other end of the zipline. With the zipline now set up, you can ride it to reach your desired destination.

You can also use the Rope Gun to head up and scale elevated locations. So, it’s a useful traversal tool that’ll help you reach your destinations faster. You can also remove a zipline and return it to your inventory by looking at either end and interacting with it, depending on where you are.

Now, you can reload the Rope Gun and shoot a zipline again in Sons of the Forest. The Rope Gun has a firing range of 50 metres, but the zipline can stretch up to 150 metres. It’s not only a useful tool for quicker exploration, but it also helps significantly with moving Stones and Logs in Sons of the Forest, and it can be used on ropes inside caves for traversal.
