How to Get Iron in Conan Exiles?

Ironstones, while abundant, can be hard to come by in Conan Exiles, especially if you’re a beginner. On its own, Ironstones have little utility, but when you smelt them into Iron Bars at your Furnaces, they open up new avenues of crafting resources. It’s one of the, if not the most important, resources in the game, and here’s how you can easily farm it:

Best Locations to Farm Ironstones in Conan Exiles

Iron is obtained by smelting Ironstones in Conan Exiles, so you need to focus on farming the latter. When you’re beginning your journey across the Exiled Lands, you won’t have much access to Ironstones before crossing the Great River, despite this resource being abundant.

However, there are locations you should scour extensively, particularly along the Northern Riverbank for this valuable resource. Here are some of the areas where you’ll find Ironstones early on in Conan Exiles:

• The Tower of Bats (F5): Explore the area around the Tower of Bats at F5 to find Ironstones, which appear as grey deposits, especially at the bottom of ridges and cliffs. Head through the river up northwest, then climb up the cliff to avoid engaging in combat and walking straight to the Ironstones. Just to be safe, bring some early-game weapons to take care of animals or enemy NPCs at the location.
• Mounds of the Dead (A11): The next best location is to the west of the Mounds of the Dead at A11. Most of the Ironstones here will be located at the top of the cliff, but also ensure to search the ground before you climb up. You can also search around B11 for more Ironstone deposits in Conan Exiles. You may find some enemies here, so sneak around them. Animals are much harder to get by, so it’s easier to eliminate them on your way to the Ironstones.
• Godsclaw Passage (E10): Next, head to the front of the Bridge of the Betrayer, near the Godsclaw Passage at E10, to find Ironstone deposits. You’ll find a plethora of Ironstone deposits on each side of the Passage. As a beginner, these three locations are the best spots to farm Ironstones, but they come with their fair share of challenges, mainly enemies and dangerous animals, so let’s take a look at some of the easier areas to farm this resource.
• NPC Camp (I5): There’s an NPC Camp at I5 with multiple Ironstone deposits, and you can easily reach this area by swimming up the river northeast. Search along the beach all the way to the cliffs filled with Ironstones, and the best part is, you don’t need to engage in combat. However, it’s best to eliminate the guard at the Camp’s entrance to avoid getting into trouble, even if you make a mistake and wander into the Camp.
• East Marshes (L6): The East Marshes at L6 is another great location to find Ironstones in Conan Exiles, but you might also encounter some Crocodiles in the area, so watch out for them. If you happen to cross paths with them, you can harvest them for Bones, which is another useful resource to collect. If you have Knives in your inventory, keep them within arm’s reach when farming Ironstones to avoid death.

Similar to harvesting other resources in Conan Exiles, you need a Hatchet or a Pick to farm Ironstones. Once you’ve obtained loads of Ironstone, you can insert them into your Furnaces or the Kiln to begin the smelting process and collect Iron Bars. No matter how much you avoid combat, there will be cases where you need to face your enemies head-on, so we recommend using the Bow & Arrow to deal damage without getting too close.

It’s an early-game reliable weapon that will get you through your first fights. This strategy applies to Crocodiles, Bears, Bisons, Bulls and even human enemies such as the Dafari Cannibals, whose Camps are set up around the Exiled Lands in Conan Exiles. For animals like Shaleback or Rabbits, you needn’t worry about them, although you can kill them to obtain Meat and other valuable resources when you’re out and about farming Ironstones.

What Is Iron Used for in Conan Exiles?

Iron or Iron Bars is the basic iron ingot for crude metalmaking in Conan Exiles, and there’s a lot of crafting utility with it. The most common use for Iron is to craft an Iron Hatchet or an Iron Pick, which are upgraded versions of the Stone Hatchet and the Stone Pick at the Blacksmith’s Bench.

You can also craft new Shields, Traps, Blacksmith Benches, and more at the Siege Weapon Base and the Construction Hammer. An abundance of armor sets or Chestplates, Helmets, Bracers, Leggings, and more armor pieces are available for crafting by combining Iron Bars and other valuable resources. These are Uncommon-rarity armor sets that provide solid stats and improve your journey through the Exiled Lands in Conan Exiles.

If you thought that was it, think again, since you can also craft high-quality Weapons such as Swords, Maces, Spears, and much more at the Blacksmith Bench too. Even crafting Arcane Staffs for sorcery is possible by using Iron Bars at the Sorcerer Thaumaturgy Bench. Lastly, you can utilize Iron Bars at the Tinker’s Bench to craft Kits such as Armor Repair Kit, Weapon Repair Kit, Simple Reinforcement Kits, and more.
