How to Evolve Pokémon in Cobblemon?

Cobblemon is a free, open-source Minecraft mod that seamlessly integrates iconic Pokémon, battles, and catching mechanics into the game’s sandbox world, transforming it into a whole Pokémon x Minecraft adventure. Evolving your Pokémon team will be necessary to make them stronger, and this game’s evolution mechanics are very similar to the core Pokémon franchise’s evolution mechanics, so you won’t have any issues if you’ve played the games in the series.

Some Pokémon can be evolved by leveling them up using Rare Candies or having them participate in battles, while others can be evolved by reaching specific Friendship Levels with them. Then there are Pokémon that require Evolution Stones to evolve, so the evolution process ultimately depends on the Pokémon you want to evolve in Cobblemon.

1 Leveling Up

Certain Pokémon can be evolved by leveling them up in the Cobblemon game, and you literally don’t need to do anything else. Explore the map with them, participate in Pokémon battles, use Rare Candies, and keep playing the game consistently to level them up. Once they reach a specific threshold, you’ll be notified that your Pokémon is now ready to evolve. Press “M” on your keyboard to open up the Pokémon stats menu, and you’ll notice the “Evolve” button on the left.

Click on it to open the evolution menu on the right and evolve your desired Pokémon. For example, Mudkip can evolve into Marshtomp after reaching level 16. Sure, you can choose not to evolve your Pokémon immediately, but we recommend that you do to steamroll your competition. There’s no benefit in having an underpowered Pokémon on your team, especially if it’s ready to evolve.

2 Increasing Friendship Level

Another way to evolve a Pokémon in Cobblemon is by increasing your Friendship Level with them and hitting a specific threshold. To check a Pokémon’s Friendship Level, press “M” on your keyboard, click on the third icon at the top that looks like a horizontal bar graph, then click on “Other” below. You’ll see your Friendship Level with a Pokémon here, which you can increase by exploring the map with your Pokémon outside the Poké Ball.

Alternatively, you can give specific Berries to Pokemon to increase their Friendship Level, but it’s also worth noting that they do lower the Pokemon’s EVs as a tradeoff. Additionally, you can increase the Friendship Level by battling other Pokémon and Trainers. If you have a Soothe Bell, have your Pokémon hold it to increase the amount of Friendship gained by 50%.

You can also craft a Friend Ball using 2x Green Apricorns, 1x Red Apricorn, 1x Yellow Apricorn, and 1x Iron Ingot. After you catch a Pokémon with a Friend Ball, it will start with 150 Friendship, and some Pokémon require 160 Friendship to evolve in Cobblemon, so you’ll have your work cut out for you this way. It’s best to keep building Friendship as you play, regardless.

3 Using Evolution Stones

Evolution Stones can be used to evolve specific Pokémon in Cobblemon. There exist multiple Evolution Stones that you can craft to evolve your Pokémon. Look for Evolution Stone Ore, and once you mine it, smelt the Ore using a Furnace or a Blast Furnace to craft the respective Evolution Stone and use it on your desired Pokemon to evolve them. Evolution Stones can also be crafted from their respective storage blocks and vice versa.

While almost every Pokémon can be evolved with a specific Evolution Stone, there are some standout cases where the Evolution Stone you use will determine their evolution form. For example, using a Thunder Stone on Eevee evolves it into Jolteon, while using a Water Stone evolves it into Vaporeon. So, check the requirements before evolving any of your Pokémon in Cobblemon, and don’t forget to use the right Stones on the right Pokémon.
