House of the Dragon Season 3: HBO Max Bends The Knee With Slashed Subscription Rate

HBO Max has announced a 40% discount on annual subscription plans, available on all three tiers, timed with the arrival of House of the Dragon Season 3. The promotion launched on June 18, 2026, and runs through July 15, 2026, for new and former streaming customers in the United States, and will be available through HBOMax.com, Prime Video Subscriptions and the Roku Channel. Historically, HBO Max has not provided a discount for an annual subscription, but the current deal features an extra 28% on top of whatever the existing 1-year price tag is, equating to 40% a year when broken down over twelve months.

After the 12 months, all the plans go back to their usual yearly rate. The deal does not apply to customers who opt for the month-to-month schedule; the lower price is available only to yearly subscribers.

As per a report by The Hollywood Reporter, right now HBO Max is seeing rising user numbers just as the deal is about to launch. Warner Bros. Discovery’s latest financial update shows over 140 million people signed up so far. The financial report also forecasts that nearly 150 million users will be subscribed by December. The aforementioned report by The Hollywood Reporter also stated that back in May, Chief Executive David Zaslav spoke with investors, highlighting stronger gains in memberships.

He had said,

We are seeing healthy acceleration and subscriber-related revenue growth, which we expect will pick up real pace in Q2 and through the rest of the year.

And that he also expects income growth to speed up again before 2027 begins. House of the Dragon Season 3 will be arriving on June 21, 2026, with 8 episodes. New episodes follow each week until the story closes on August 9. Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series moves forward under Ryan Condal alone as showrunner, who had gotten the approval for season 3 in June 2024, just three days ahead of Season 2′s premiere. Filming for season 3 had stretched from March through October 2025, and even before that wrap party had settled, a fourth season was confirmed in November 2025 as per Deadline’s report on November 20, 2025.

The show will see familiar faces like Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy playing Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen. Joining them are Olivia Cooke, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Rhys Ifans, and Steve Toussaint.
