Spoiler Alert !!!
This article discusses major events from House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 6.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 7 arrives with far too many characters standing one bad decision away from disaster. Ser Criston Cole is dead after the Butcher’s Ball, while Lord Corlys Velaryon’s condition remains uncertain following a savage Hightower ambush. Rhaenyra Targaryen has sent Alicent Hightower to Harrenhal after taking Helaena Targaryen’s prophetic vision seriously, which places Alicent between her wounded son and the increasingly possessive Alys Rivers.
Alys has already offered Aemond Targaryen five hidden Dreamfyre eggs, children, and a future at Harrenhal. Over in Tumbleton, Lord Ormund Hightower continues using Prince Daeron Targaryen as the respectable face of his campaign, while Ulf the White and Hugh Hammer are growing tired of Rhaenyra’s orders. With one episode remaining after this chapter, Episode 7 has to bring these scattered conflicts much closer together without rushing past the character choices that made them worth following.

What Should We Expect From House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 7?
House of the Dragon | Credit: HBO MaxThe first question Episode 7 needs to answer concerns Corlys. House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 6 ends after Hightower soldiers attack him and his men, with Corlys collapsing before the screen cuts away. His death is not confirmed onscreen! That distinction is crucial for Alyn of Hull and Addam of Hull. Corlys’ death could push both sons toward retaliation, while his capture would give Ormund a valuable hostage. The Episode 7 preview reportedly has Addam approaching Rhaenyra with a warning, which suggests the Velaryons will demand answers before the queen can return her attention to Harrenhal or Tumbleton.
I’m especially curious about Alyn, who has spent much of the season counselling restraint. Corlys’ relationship with him has been strained by years of neglect and Rhaenyra’s refusal to grant him the Velaryon name. Losing his father now could produce grief, anger, or the unpleasant realisation that reconciliation arrived too late.
Alicent’s arrival at Harrenhal should provide the episode’s most volatile family reunion. Rhaenyra sends her there to verify Helaena’s vision and deal with Aemond without announcing an army’s approach. The preview places Alicent with Aemond, while Alys attempts to turn him against his mother.
Aemond has received everything Alicent cannot offer him: affection without judgement, a castle where he can hide, and five dragon eggs that could support a new family line. Yet Alys murdered a stable boy to protect his identity, and her invitation carries its own form of control. Alicent may recognise that danger before Aemond does, although convincing him to abandon Alys after years of parental resentment will be no easy task.
The Dreamfyre eggs should remain part of that conflict. They cannot produce adult dragons in time to rescue the Greens during the current war, but they give Aemond a reason to remain at Harrenhal. His choice between finding Vhagar and accepting Alys’ proposed future could decide whether he returns to the battlefield before the finale.
Back in King’s Landing, the preview brings Rhaenyra and Helaena together. Rhaenyra reminds her that they are sisters and that Helaena must recognise her authority as queen. That conversation could become uncomfortable very quickly. Helaena has lost a child, carries another possible heir, and remains a prisoner under the woman whose husband arranged Blood and Cheese. Her visions may make her useful to Rhaenyra, but usefulness offers little protection in this family.
Tumbleton is another problem waiting for a spark. Ormund has survived Rhaenyra’s failed assassination attempt, captured or injured Corlys, and tightened his influence over Daeron. Gwayne Hightower understands that Ormund is exploiting the prince, but he may leave Daeron behind rather than confront his cousin directly.
Ulf and Hugh also look increasingly susceptible to changing sides. Ulf resents Daemon’s treatment of him, while Hugh wants to protect Kat and recover some control over his life. Readers of Fire & Blood know why their frustration deserves attention, although the show has changed enough details that their exact route remains uncertain.
Episode 7 has the unenviable job of carrying all this into the finale. I don’t need another enormous battle if the character confrontations are given enough room. Alicent meeting Aemond, Helaena facing Rhaenyra, and Alyn learning what happened to Corlys could do more damage than dragonfire. Which confrontation is you waiting for most, and do you think Corlys survived the ambush? Bring your prediction to the comments, and follow FandomWire for more updates!
