Henry Cavill seems to be one of a notable group of actors in Hollywood who have held both a flagship Marvel and a flagship DC superhero role in their filmography. The actor had a cameo as a Wolverine variant in 2024’s Deadpool and Wolverine. While he did not replace Hugh Jackman as the hero, the cameo was highly regarded by fans after he was replaced as the DCU’s Superman.
Cavill’s cameo as the X-Men hero will be released as a Marvel Legends figurine. The figurine will be in the mainline series by Hasbro and is based on the role Cavill played in Deadpool and Wolverine. This makes Cavill the only other live-action actor to portray an adult version of the role after Hugh Jackman, following Troye Sivan’s brief appearance as a young Logan in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But does this mean he is here to stay in the MCU?
Henry Cavill’s Wolverine Gets Its Official Name With Marvel Legends
Henry Cavill’s action figurine as Wolverine | Credits: YouTube/Hasbro PulseHenry Cavill had exited from two of his biggest franchises, Superman and The Witcher, when he made his cameo as Wolverine in Deadpool and Wolverine. It was a welcome surprise that was long rumored before release. While the cameo seemed like a one-off gag, Marvel has sort of made it official with the Marvel Legends figurine.
The figurine with Cavill’s likeness has reportedly been officially named Cavillrine by Hasbro. According to Hasbro Pulse, the figurine was revealed alongside two other variants, with pre-orders opening July 9, 2026, from the movie. A Wolverinepool variant, Wolverine wearing Deadpool’s red-and-black suit, was revealed alongside a grey-suited, X-Force concept art Deadpool was released along with a grey-suited, X-Force Deadpool.
While Deadpool and Wolverine were filming, Cavillrine’s cameo was closely kept under wraps, with his name in the script reportedly being ‘Hopperine’, based on David Harbour’s character from Stranger Things (via The Direct). The film had many other cameos, including Chris Evans as the Human Torch from Fox’s The Fantastic Four films.
However, the others have not yet received a Marvel Legends figurine, making fans wonder if the inclusion of Cavillrine hints at the actor’s future in the MCU and the upcoming Secret Wars.
What Does Cavillrine’s Inclusion Mean For Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine?
Hugh Jackman has been the only live-action actor to play Wolverine in a lead role since the first X-Men film in 2000, setting aside Troye Sivan’s brief appearance as a young Logan in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. While he was supposed to retire after Logan, he returned to the role in 2024’s Deadpool and Wolverine and played several other variants in the movie. Henry Cavill is the only other actor to portray the role in live-action after Jackman.
Jackman has not been confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, though many of his X-Men buddies, like Sir Ian McKellen, James Marsden, and Sir Patrick Stewart, are returning to their roles. Even Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson has not yet been officially confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, though his established MCU presence makes an appearance widely expected. However, will Jackman remain the only Wolverine in the MCU?
With Henry Cavill’s cameo being officially canonised with the Marvel Legends figurine, fans are wondering if the actor will officially take the baton of the character from Jackman. The response to his inclusion was met positively by fans, and the cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine could have been a litmus test on whether he would be accepted.
On the other hand, the Marvel Legends figurine has been named Cavillrine, which means that he is not THE Wolverine for the franchise. So, there is still a chance for Hugh Jackman to be the primary Logan in the MCU and Cavill to just make one-off appearances now and then. Only time will tell.
