Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has hinted that GTA 6‘s online multiplayer mode might not arrive until sometime in 2027, based on conversations his company has had with Rockstar. The studio itself, however, has made no official statement confirming any online release date, and its marketing has stayed focused entirely on the single-player campaign so far.
Clancy, in an interview with Bloomberg, hints at how closely the streaming industry is tracking Rockstar’s next move, and how much viewership a full multiplayer rollout could eventually generate for platforms like Twitch.
What Twitch’s CEO Said About GTA 6’s Online Mode

His reasoning centers on viewership economics: GTA 6 alone should drive a major spike in streaming activity at launch, but Clancy believes an even larger and more sustained bump could follow once multiplayer content becomes available, since that’s typically when creators produce the steadiest stream of long-term footage rather than a short burst tied to a single campaign playthrough.
It’s worth noting that the Twitch CEO never used an official title like “GTA Online 2,” nor did he claim to be speaking for Rockstar.
No Official Confirmation From Rockstar Yet
The studio is yet to reveal anything about GTA Online 2 | Credit: Rockstar GamesDespite the attention Clancy’s comments have generated, Rockstar has not issued any public statement about a multiplayer release date for GTA 6, and platform listings for the game continue to describe it purely as a single-player experience.
When GTA 5 originally rolled out, that game launched on September 17, 2013 without any multiplayer component, and GTA Online followed a couple of weeks afterward before eventually growing into one of the most profitable live-service games in the industry, thanks to the large chunk of microtransaction spending from a dedicated player base.
If Rockstar were to repeat the same for GTA 6, which arrives November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with a PC version still unannounced, a multiplayer companion could possibly follow fairly soon after launch, in contrast to Clancy’s 2027 estimate.
Most importantly, until Rockstar or Take-Two addresses the topic directly, any specific release window for GTA 6’s online mode, 2027 or otherwise, should be taken as an educated guess rather than confirmed information.
