Golden Armor (Ancient Armor) Location in Sons of the Forest Guide

Found in the Cultist Cave, getting the Ancient Armor in Sons of the Forest is one of the most important tasks in the entire game, and also one of the most punishing caves to navigate. Formerly known as the Golden Armor, this glittering set of covering isn’t just a cosmetic flex, and is rather a mandatory progression item that you non-negotiably need to reach the endgame and escape the island.

If you’ve been putting off getting the armor off because the cave sounds intimidating, this guide breaks down exactly where to go and how to get through it in one piece.

What You Need Before Entering the Cave

It would be a futile attempt to dive into the cave with the Ancient Armor inside without the Rebreather in your inventory, thanks to the fact that much of it is flooded, and you won’t make it far without the ability to breathe underwater. You can find the Rebreather in a smaller cave near the north beach spawn points, which should be marked on your GPS.

You should also make sure to stock up on air tanks before heading in. The cave should have enough for you as you head in, but it would be wiser to have a solid supply going in either way. Make sure to carry other essential items, such as tarps, as they will help you set up save points along the long dungeon crawl.

How to Find the Ancient Armor in Sons of the Forest

Since the v1.0 update, the Ancient Armor was relocated to a large cultist cave in the southwestern side of the mountain, near the two big lakes you’ll see on your GPS. The cave has two entrances, with the eastern one being just a bit more if you’ve already opened the luxury bunker that sits just across the lake from the resident bunker on the eastern shoreline.

Once inside, the cave might feel overwhelming, but it is surprisingly linear. Your best bet is to follow the golden material markings that appear around doorways and passages: follow these, and you’re on the right track. Break the wooden boards blocking your path as you go and progress through the flooded sections using your rebreather.

As you get closer, you’ll hear the audio cue of lightning strikes. Follow it, and you will find yourself in front of a crashed spaceship, which will be your landmark. Once you’re at the spaceship, head around to its boarded-up back entrance, break through, and make your way to the cockpit, where the Ancient Armor should be waiting for you.

How to Upgrade the Ancient Armor

Picking up the Ancient Armor isn’t the final step, as you also need to upgrade it with Sofalite to unlock the true endgame. Head to the Luxury Bunker and look for the Sofalite Upgrader blueprint, which sits near the entrance to the Hell Cave. Build the upgrader and place the Ancient Armor on it before loading the vat with Sofalite ore to complete the process. The upgrade will also summon a wave of mutants you will need to fight as the upgrade completes.
