For now, the efforts of the club’s prospects will have to do and, hey, a win is a win no matter the circumstances.
Even when the triumph came in the prospect challenge at the Centre Slush Puppie in Gatineau, Que.
On Sunday afternoon in their second and last game of the event, the Leafs beat the Winnipeg Jets rookies 6-4, a day after Toronto lost to the Ottawa Senators in overtime.
The Leafs built a 3-1 lead on goals by defencemen Hayes Hundley, Vinny Borgesi and Alex Bilecki a couple of minutes into the second period with nifty forward Tinus Luc Koblar, a second-round pick in 2025, assisting on all three.

Late comeback snuffed out
Nic Whitehead and Brody Pepoy staked the Leafs to a 5-2 lead before the Jets scored two power-play goals late in the third period to get to within one goal.
Harry Nansi sealed the victory when he scored into an empty Jets net in the final seconds.
Goaltender Patriks Plumins, a fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft, had a strong outing in the Leafs net. The 18-year-old finished with 39 saves as the Leafs defence, loose at times, allowed several good scoring chances.

With the annual rookie tournament done, full attention turns to main Leafs camp, which gets underway on Wednesday. On-ice sessions begin on Thursday, just two days before the Leafs and Montreal Canadiens play a pair of pre-season split-squad games in Toronto and Montreal.
First, though, Leafs players, staff, alumni and guests will tee off on Monday at the club’s annual golf charity classic at RattleSnake Point Golf Club in Milton.
