— Genshin Mains_Your Guide to Teyvat (@genshinmains_) May 28, 2026This new rotation will run from May 2026 into June 2026, and will feature the Battle-Hardened Glacial Wolf, Hydro Tulpa, and The Open-Eyed. Each of these bosses will require specific teams and reactions for the best chance at clearing. HoYoverse certainly hasn’t made it easy.
Unlike other endgame modes like the Spiral Abyss, Stygian Onslaught isn’t just a DPS check. In the harder difficulties like Menacing, Fearless, and especially Dire, you’ll need teams that can properly counter the boss’s mechanics while also doing enough damage to beat the strict two-minute timer.
In this guide, we’ll break down the current Stygian Onslaught rotation in Genshin Impact, including the best characters, teams, and strategies.
Genshin Impact Stygian Onslaught 6.6 Overview
It’s time to grind out some boss fights again. | Image Credit: HoYoverseStygian Onslaught remains one of Genshin Impact‘s most challenging permanent endgame modes. Players must defeat three boss encounters across six difficulty levels:
- Easy
- Normal
- Hard
- Menacing
- Fearless
- Dire
The first three difficulties are relatively easy. You can even reuse characters. However, beginning with Menacing, each boss will require a separate team, which means you’ll need to plan out your characters in advance.
Rewards
Stygian Onslaught rewards include:
- Primogems
- Mora
- Hero’s Wit
- Dust of Enlightenment
- Radiant Phantasm weapon skins
- Various progression materials
The highest rewards come from clearing the harder difficulties, particularly Fearless and Dire.
Exalted Ones Bonus
Version 6.6 continues the Exalted Ones system.
Each day, 16 characters receive temporary stat boosts inside Stygian Onslaught, increasing their HP, ATK, and DEF. The roster changes based on community Dire clear data.
Keep in mind that these buffs only apply to characters you already own.
Battlefield 1: Battle-Hardened Glacial Wolf Guide
This boss is pretty easy with the right elements on your team. | Image Credit: HoYoverseThe first boss of Luna VII is the Battle-Hardened Glacial Wolf, a tougher variant of the Nod-Krai Glacial Wolf encounter.
At first glance, this fight appears to be a simple DPS race. In reality, it’s almost entirely centered around one mechanic: Pyro or Electro Swirl reactions.
How the Glacial Wolf Works
At the start of the fight, the wolf summons an Ancestral Wolf Spirit.
While the spirit remains active:
- The boss gains massive resistance to damage.
- On Fearless and Dire, the boss becomes effectively invulnerable.
- The spirit is protected by a special Cryo Ward.
The ward can only be damaged with Pyro Swirls and Electro Swirls. Regular Pyro and Electro attacks won’t work. You must use an Anemo character to trigger Swirl reactions.
Once the ward breaks:
- The spirit disappears.
- The wolf becomes stunned.
- A large amount of backlash damage is dealt.
- The boss enters its primary damage window.
Best Characters for Battlefield 1
Anemo Supports
These are arguably the most important characters for this boss:
- Prune
- Venti
- Kazuha
- Sucrose
Without a reliable Anemo character, breaking the spirit’s ward becomes a lot harder and slower.
Pyro DPS Characters
Pyro characters work well because Pyro Swirls do a lot of damage to the ward.
Best options include:
- Varka
- Mavuika
- Arlecchino
- Durin
- Chasca
Electro Alternatives
Electro teams are also very effective.
Recommended options:
- Flins
- Varesa
- Clorinde
- Raiden Shogun
- Fischl
Best Teams for Battlefield 1
Premium Varka Team
| Varka | Main DPS |
| Nicole | Support |
| Durin | Off-field Pyro |
| Prune | Anemo Support |
This team is practically tailor-made for this boss fight. Durin provides constant Pyro application while Prune continuously triggers Swirls.
Budget Varka Variant
| Varka | Main DPS |
| Durin | Pyro Support |
| Bennett | Buffer |
| Venti | Anemo Support |
This team performs nearly as well while being more accessible.
Mavuika Melt Team
| Mavuika | Main DPS |
| Citlali | Cryo Support |
| Bennett | Buffer |
| Kazuha | Anemo Support |
Kazuha enables rapid Pyro Swirls while also amplifying Mavuika’s damage.
Flins Electro Team
| Flins | Main DPS |
| Ineffa | Electro Support |
| Columbina | Buffer |
| Sucrose | Anemo Support |
Sucrose’s frequent Swirls make her surprisingly effective against the wolf’s ward.
Battlefield 1 Strategy
The biggest mistake you can make here is to only focus on the boss. Instead, try to go in with this strategy:
- Apply Pyro or Electro.
- Trigger repeated Swirls with Anemo.
- Destroy the spirit’s ward.
- Burst during the paralysis phase.
If you understand the boss mechanics correctly, even Fearless difficulty will become fairly manageable.
Battlefield 2: Hydro Tulpa Guide
You just need to take care of the smaller spawns first. | Image Credit: HoYoverseThe second battlefield is significantly easier than the other two.
The Hydro Tulpa permanently carries a Hydro aura, making it vulnerable to almost every reaction in the game.
However, the boss also has two important mechanics that can quickly ruin a run if ignored.
Hydro Tulpa Mechanics
Throughout the fight, the Tulpa summons Half-Tulpas. You have to destroy them as soon as possible. Because if not, the boss absorbs them and heals itself. And because of that, it also gains buffs, making the fight longer and harder.
On Fearless and Dire difficulties, the boss also has a shield phase to worry about. When the shield appears, your skill cooldowns reset, your elemental burst energy is restored, and the boss begins charging Torrential Flurry.
If you don’t break the shield quickly enough, the Torrential Flurry attack will instantly knock out your active character.
Best Elements Against Hydro Tulpa
Since the boss permanently applies Hydro to itself, several reaction types perform exceptionally well:
- Vaporize
- Freeze
- Bloom
- Hyperbloom
- Lunar-Bloom
- Lunar-Charged
- Overload
Cryo is particularly valuable because Cryo attacks can instantly eliminate Half-Tulpas.
Best Characters for Battlefield 2
Pyro Carries
Permanent Hydro means Vaporize is always available.
Top choices include:
- Mavuika
- Arlecchino
- Lyney
- Gaming
Cryo Teams
Cryo is excellent because it can quickly eliminate Half-Tulpas.
Strong options include:
- Skirk
- Escoffier
- Shenhe
- Citlali
- Ayaka
Lunar Teams
The Hydro aura also benefits Lunar reactions.
Best performers include:
- Nefer
- Lauma
- Columbina
- Ineffa
- Zibai
Dendro Teams
Hyperbloom remains surprisingly effective.
Useful characters include:
- Nahida
- Alhaitham
- Kuki Shinobu
- Raiden Shogun
Best Teams for Battlefield 2
Nefer Lunar-Bloom Team
| Nefer | Main DPS |
| Lauma | Support |
| Nahida | Dendro Support |
| Kuki Shinobu | Healer |
This is arguably one of the strongest teams for the battlefield.
Nahida’s linked enemies allow Half-Tulpas to die naturally while damaging the boss.
Mavuika Premium Team
| Mavuika | Main DPS |
| Citlali | Support |
| Bennett | Buffer |
| Xilonen | Support |
A straightforward Vaporize-focused setup capable of extremely fast clears.
Skirk Freeze Team
| Skirk | Main DPS |
| Escoffier | Support |
| Furina | Buffer |
| Shenhe | Support |
Cryo instantly deals with Half-Tulpas while Skirk shreds the boss.
Hyperbloom Alternative
| Alhaitham | Main DPS |
| Nahida | Support |
| Raiden | Trigger |
| Ineffa | Utility |
A surprisingly effective option for players lacking newer characters.
Battlefield 2 Strategy
As we mentioned, don’t tunnel vision on the boss itself early on.
Instead:
- Watch for Half-Tulpa spawns.
- Eliminate them immediately.
- Save burst damage for shield phases.
- Destroy the shield before Torrential Flurry activates.
- Resume normal rotations.
The Tulpa doesn’t have a ton of HP compared to the other bosses, so simply managing mechanics properly will be enough to clear it in Fearless difficulty.
Battlefield 3: The Open-Eyed Guide
This is the hardest boss, but also a little easy with enough damage. | Image Credit: HoYoverseThe third and final boss is where most players will struggle. The Open-Eyed is one of the most mechanic-heavy boss fights we’ve seen in Stygian Onslaught so far. But it’s also pretty simple.
How The Open-Eyed Works
The boss periodically enters a Monitoring State.
During this phase, it records elemental hits from:
- Pyro
- Hydro
- Electro
- Cryo
After recording two elements, it summons matching Elemental Stars with two elements. Basically like:
- Hydro + Cryo
- Pyro + Hydro
- Electro + Pyro
You’ll have to destroy these stars as soon as possible. This will interrupts the boss and deal a ton of damage to it. On top of that, it will remain stunned for a small window, giving you time to deal more damage.
If you don’t destroy them in time, the boss will gain a +70% resistance boost to the elements it recorded, which basically means your run is over. On Fearless and Dire, the Monitoring State lasts longer and records more elemental hits.

| Ineffa | Support |
Excellent at destroying Elemental Stars.
Skirk Freeze Team
| Skirk | Main DPS |

This setup intentionally creates Hydro recordings that Skirk can destroy quickly.
Mavuika Dual-Reaction Team
| Mavuika | Main DPS |
| Citlali | Support |
| Bennett | Buffer |
| Xilonen | Support |
A reliable option for players without Lunar characters.
Battlefield 3 Strategy
The entire fight revolves around controlling what the boss records.
Step 1: Make the boss record the right Elements
You want the boss to absorb elements that your team can easily counter.
For example:
- Pyro + Hydro for Lunar-Crystallize teams
- Hydro + Cryo for Freeze teams
- Pyro + Electro for Overload teams
Step 2: Destroy the Stars Immediately
When the stars appear:
- Prioritize them over the boss.
- Use your strongest elemental attacks.
- Save bursts if necessary.
Destroying both stars removes a significant chunk of the boss’s health.
Step 3: Use the Damage Window
Once the stars are gone:
- The boss becomes vulnerable.
- Unload your entire rotation.
- Prepare for the next Monitoring State.
As long as you don’t ignore the stars and focus on the boss only, you should be fine.

If you understand these gimmicks, completing the bosses even on Fearless difficulty will be easier than just trying to brute-force the fights. If you’re aiming for Dire difficulty, you’ll want the best meta teams, such as Varka Hypercarry, Mavuika Vape, Skirk Freeze, and the various Lunar reaction teams.
