Florian Wirtz reportedly struggling to find his place among Liverpool’s stars

Sport Bild suggests that Florian Wirtz may not have been fully prepared for the internal power dynamics within an elite squad like Liverpool’s ahead of his move from Bayer Leverkusen.

Things haven't gone according to plan for Germany star Florian Wirtz at Liverpool following his move from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of up to around €136 million, including potential bonuses, in the summer of 2025.

When assessing why things haven't worked out for Wirtz at Liverpool so far, multiple factors come into play, including the pressure that inevitably comes with such a hefty price tag, the club's playing style and philosophy – and how he has fitted in with his teammates.

An article in Wednesday's edition of Sport Bild suggests that the German star may not have been fully prepared for the power dynamics within a dressing room packed with big personalities at a club like Liverpool, including Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch.

The article points out that the players who were key performers during the 2024/25 season and helped Liverpool win the title didn't necessarily see the need for a new playmaker to arrive. It also claims that Wirtz is “struggling with not being found by his teammates on the pitch”.

“Wirtz is not being frozen out by his teammates. But nobody is going out of their way to make him shine in combination play either,” the report states.

According to Sport Bild, a January move is out of the question, but the “right time” to move on could be the summer of 2027 if Wirtz fails to produce a major breakthrough before then.
