A female tourist was repeatedly punched and kicked in the face near the cruise ship terminal at Canada Place on Sunday morning.

Vancouver Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Steve Addison said police were called to the scene at around 9 a.m. on Oct. 13.

He said the 35-year-old victim — a visitor to Vancouver — was walking near the cruise ship terminal when she was assaulted by a stranger.

“She was repeatedly punched and kicked in the face, and sustained multiple injuries that required medical attention at hospital,” Addison said.

“The suspect and victim did not know each other and had no prior interaction before the assault occurred.”

Bystanders who called police were able to give police enough evidence, including video, that led them to a residential building near East Pender Street and Columbia Street where a suspect was taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. with the help of a police service dog.

Massimo Rosario Falvo, 40, has been charged with assault and remains in custody.
