Unji Zuma is a young man who will be introduced in the Danmanra Arc of Dandadan. Okarun and the gang will work together to find him as he is believed to be in possession of Okarun’s second golden ball. While the arc is full of action, it will also delve deeper into Zuma’s backstory, which can even rival Acrobatic Silky’s history.

Zuma is shown to be an extremely kind and generous individual who helps out troubled teenagers. His acts earned him respect from the runaways, as they were loyal to him. But his kindness stemmed from a deeply troubling past. He showed the compassion to others that he never received.

Unji and his brother belonged to a poor family, and their father passed away due to overworking when they were young. Their mother took up their responsibilities, but they were evicted from their home. Futa, Unji’s little brother, was everything to him, and he protected him from being bullied.

But one day, when the boy was late to return from school, Zuma went out to look for him and discovered his drowned body. Unji’s mom could not take the additional blow and took her surviving son out for one final day of fun. On their way back, she tried to kill both herself and her son by jumping in front of an oncoming train. Zuma did not want to die and ran away, only to see his mom end herself.

Science SARU has made a name for itself due to the marvelous season 1 of Dandadan. Anime studios gain a notorious reputation for cutting off scenes from the source material or not producing a proper adaptation. But Science SARU has gone above and beyond for Dandadan.

From the chair scene controversy in the anime all the way up to animating Acrobatic Silky’s past, the studio left no stone unturned to give Dandadan a perfect adaptation. The graphic scenes have stirred up fans since the protagonists are minors; however, the studio is adamant about its perfect recreation.

In an age where studios need to follow their source materials perfectly, Science SARU has done a great job. This gives fans hope about the upcoming adaptation of the Danmanra arc as well. Unji Zuma is a great character, and Science SARU will definitely do him justice. So prepare your tissues for an all-out cry-fest for when it does happen.

The Dandadan manga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Hulu.
