Ex-professional footballer Thomas Hitzlsperger wants to take over German third-division club 1860 Munich, based on a report from BILD.

“Over the past few months, I've been intensively working on this together with Markus Rejek,” he explained on the TV show Blickpunkt Sport.

"Rejek was previously managing director, and considering whether there's a possibility of buying out the current shareholder.

“Perhaps to do something with partners at 1860. The interest is there,” the 52-cap German international added.

The club's main investor, Hasan Ismaik, has held 60 percent of the club's shares since 2011 but is keen to cash in due to the team's lack of success.

“Let’s see how things develop. We’ve spoken with many people from the club, but also with Hasan Ismaik’s representatives.

"The discussions were constructive, but everyone is aware that, given 1860 Munich’s current situation, cooperation isn’t the norm at all levels.

"Everyone sees the club’s potential, which is why there’s so much interest from many quarters,” said Hitzlsperger.

According to Bild, the 44-year-old has even submitted an offer for Ismaik’s shares – valued at €20million – together with investors from England.
