The Gundam franchise has never been afraid to try something new. Over the years, it has taken fans to different timelines, introduced new heroes and villains, and told stories about war, politics, technology, and the people caught in the middle.

Now, several new Gundam projects are in the works. Some will continue popular stories, while others will take the franchise in a completely new direction. With that said, here are the upcoming Gundam shows and movies ranked by hype.

6 Gundam Eight Is Finally Coming to Life

Mobile Suit Gundam Eight may not be getting a full anime just yet, but its upcoming special PV is still worth watching. The manga is currently running in Gundam Ace, and the animated PV is being produced by Raging Bull with Tomoki Kyoda directing (via the official website). Kyoda is best known for his work on Eureka Seven.

The project is interesting because fans will finally get to see how the manga’s world looks in motion. However, it is hard to put Gundam Eight higher when there is no full anime series or movie announced yet. For now, it feels more like a promising first step than a major new Gundam project.

5 The Original Gundam Is Getting a New Look

There are very few Gundam projects more important than the original 1979 series, because this is where Amuro Ray, Char Aznable, the RX-78-2 Gundam, and the One Year War first became part of anime history. Bandai Namco has announced a remaster project for the original Mobile Suit Gundam as part of the franchise’s 50th-anniversary plans.

The project is expected to begin releasing in 2029 and is meant to make the classic series easier for a new generation to enjoy. Still, the lack of details about what the remaster will actually change keeps it below the projects with newer stories.

4 Gundam Wing Is Finally Getting New Animation

For many international fans, Gundam Wing was their first Gundam series. Its run on Toonami helped introduce characters like Heero Yuy, Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner, and Wufei to a huge audience.

That makes the announcement of a new Gundam Wing animation especially exciting. Bandai Namco confirmed that the project is in production, although the studio has not revealed exactly what form it will take yet, which is why it sits below the projects with clearer stories.

3 SEED FREEDOM ZERO Will Take Fans Back to the Past

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO has one big advantage over most of the other projects on this list: fans already know they want more SEED. The project will reportedly tell a story set between Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM. A first trailer has also already been released.

After the huge success of SEED FREEDOM, the timing could hardly be better. This makes the project more interesting than a simple prequel, and thus comes in third place.

2 Hathaway Part 3 Could End the Trilogy With a Bang

The next Hathaway movie has something that makes it especially exciting: it is heading toward the end of a story that fans have already invested in. The film will follow Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway and The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, adapting the later part of the story.

The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is also set to arrive on Netflix on August 31, 2026 (via @NetflixAnime on Twitter/X), giving more fans a chance to catch up before the final movie. The first two films have given Hathaway Noa’s story a serious and grounded feel. That is why Part 3 ranks above SEED FREEDOM ZERO. It has the chance to bring a major Universal Century story to a satisfying conclusion.

1 XARX-ZERO Could Be Gundam‘s Next Big Hit

At the top of the list is Mobile Suit Gundam RG: XARX-ZERO. Unlike the other projects, it is creating an entirely new world.

The series is scheduled for 2027 and will introduce the After Apocalypse timeline. It also serves as the starting point of the larger RG Project, which connects the anime with the upcoming game GUNDAM ROGUE ORBIT. Azumi Ray, a young war orphan, will become the pilot of Gundam ZERO and fight against the mysterious Apocalypse.

The biggest reason for the hype is the enemy itself. Gundam usually puts humans against humans, but XARX-ZERO changes that formula. The Apocalypse is a strange alien ecosystem that forced humanity to abandon Earth. With Kenji Kamiyama directing and a completely new timeline to explore, XARX-ZERO feels like the biggest gamble on this list.
