8 Episode 8 — It Will Stay This Way and You Will Obey
The finale of Beef Season 2 took place in Seoul, South Korea, as a showdown between the protagonists and the main villain of the show. Unfortunately, this took the supposed beef between the two couples to international espionage territory, completely moving away from what the season was supposed to be about.
7 Episode 6 — Those Blue Remembered Hills
A still from Beef | Credit: NetflixEpisode 6 focused on building up the final arc of the show, with Chairwoman Park desperately scrambling to cover up the death caused by her lover. Josh and Lindsay attempt to have an amicable divorce that has turned sour. The focus on Chairwoman Park’s story veered away from Beef’s core plot without giving us enough of a reason to invest in the billionaire.
6 Episode 3 — The Increasing Flimsiness of Any Certainties About the Future
A still from Beef | Credit: NetflixA relatively interesting story, Episode 3 of Beef Season 2 was all about blackmail and manipulation. Without much beef going on, this episode showed the impact of capitalism on each couple. Their personal lives unspool into a thread of regular interpersonal problems that often move into cheesy territory.
5 Episode 1 — All the Things We’re Never Going to Have
A still from Beef | Credit: NetflixThe premiere of Season 2 did not waste time in introducing the supposed plot of the show: the intergenerational rivalry in Beef. A tame episode by comparison, Episode 1 was what we came to expect from the trailers and all the plot points given to us. The millennial couple’s marriage was clearly on display as a failing one, while the younger couple’s engagement was a blossoming one.
4 Episode 7 — The Hour of Separation
A still from Beef | Credit: NetflixThe penultimate episode of Beef Season 2 was a plane ride of revelations, bringing the beef back where it was momentarily lost. A highlight of the episode was Lindsay attempting to mess with Ashley as the latter becomes what she was against all along: a slave to the system. The episode is filled with thrills and suspense, thankfully making it more about the couple despite the new territory it was moving into.
3 Episode 2 — A New Starting Point for Further Desires
A still from Beef | Credit: NetflixEpisode 2 of Beef Season 2 showed us the corporate satire we were waiting for. Josh is being blackmailed by Ashley, forcing them into an awkward boss-employee dynamic. The passive aggressiveness is real as Josh tries to find a way out of the situation while Ashley lives a better life at the country club.
2 Episode 5 — I Am Killing My Flesh Without It
A still from Beef | Credit: NetflixEpisode 5 dealt with the ramifications of Ashley’s actions from the previous episode as they all searched for Lindsay’s missing dog. Perhaps the most brutally honest of all the episodes, we see Josh and Austin bond over their struggling relationships while Lindsay and Ashley have an open talk about the difficulties of marriage.
1 Episode 4 — Oh, the Comfort, the Inexpressible Comfort
A still from Beef | Credit: NetflixEpisode 4 had everything that made Beef the twisted, dark show everyone loved. Josh tries to “help” Ashley during a medical emergency, but only earns her ire when he makes it conditional: the perfect representation of modern boss-employee boundaries being broken. After surgery, an enraged Ashley does the unthinkable by breaking into their house in a suspenseful moment of disgusting actions.
