Eiza González has offered a glimpse into the intense preparation behind her new project, sharing an Instagram post about the weight she gained for her upcoming film, Iron Jane. The Mexican actress, whose rising career has seen her take on roles across a wide range of genres, is now preparing for what may be her most physically demanding role yet: a competitive bodybuilder struggling to balance her mental health with the pressures of the sport.
In Iron Jane, Eiza González plays Janie John, a woman who turns to competitive bodybuilding after enduring years of trauma in her childhood. According to the film’s official synopsis, the sport becomes a refuge for her character, giving her a sense of control and escape she has never experienced before. To portray the role authentically, González underwent part of that same demanding training experience herself, describing it on Instagram as an extreme physical transformation.

“So proud to tell Jane’s story and this journey is one very special to me.”
The post drew praise from several celebrities, including Priyanka Chopra and Melissa Fumero, who commented, “You did that!”
The role also carries personal significance for González, who has been open about her past struggles with eating disorders. In a separate social media post, she reflected on what it means to undergo a physical transformation for work and described her lifelong relationship with her body as “complicated, nostalgic, [and] sad.” She wrote:
Most of my life my relationship with my body has been complicated. It began at a young age, after my father’s sudden death, when I coped with depression by eating compulsively, trying to soothe pain I hadn’t processed. By 13, I had gained 30 pounds almost overnight, navigating grief, puberty, and confusion all at once.
In the same post, González also spoke about who she is today: someone dedicated to caring for her body with kindness and compassion rather than seeking validation from others. “I am proud of where I am now, and how far I have come,” she wrote.
She also acknowledged that breaking old habits is a difficult journey, but emphasized that change is possible.
Iron Jane is written and directed by Lissette Feliciano, with Brandon Sklenar co-starring as Janie’s trainer and a former champion. The film’s story goes beyond physical achievement. As Janie rises in the sport and her body transforms, her grip on reality begins to slip in a world where nothing is tolerated and anything less than perfection is unacceptable.
