Dune: Part 3 Cast and Character Guide: Every New and Returning Actor

Dune: Part 3 is bringing Denis Villeneuve’s Paul Atreides trilogy toward its final and most morally thorny chapter, with Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Robert Pattinson leading a cast that now has to deal with the cost of Paul’s empire. Warner Bros. released the new Dune: Part Three trailer on July 8, 2026, and the film is based on Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah and arrives in theaters on December 18. 

At the Global IMAX Fan Event, Chalamet told PEOPLE, “this one is really its own energy,” while Denis Villeneuve said, “I don’t want us to walk into our own footsteps.” That is exactly why this cast guide is important. The third film looks less like another coronation and more like a reckoning. Here’s the complete Dune: Part 3 cast and character guide!

Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides

Cast Status: Returning Character 

Paul Atreides has been the center of Villeneuve’s Dune films since the first installment, but Dune: Part 3 places him in a far more uncomfortable position. Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul after his rise to power, with the trailer showing him wrestling with guilt and asking forgiveness for what he has done. By the end of Dune: Part Two, Paul has become Emperor and unleashed a holy war, which means the new film should examine the terrible distance between prophetic power and moral safety.

Chalamet’s career had already become one of the defining modern movie-star stories before Dune. his breakout role came in Call Me by Your Name, before he added credits such as Lady Bird, The King and Wonka. Chalamet’s strength has always been his ability to play intelligence without making it cold and vulnerability without making it weak.

Zendaya as Chani

Cast Status: Returning Character 

Chani returns as one of the most important emotional forces in Dune: Part 3. People reported that Zendaya reprises the role and that the trailer shows Chani confronting Paul over broken promises and his decision to take power in his own name. That is essential because Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two changed Chani’s position from the book by letting her reject Paul’s political ascent more openly. For me, that makes Chani the franchise’s clearest moral counterweight. She is not there merely to love Paul or mourn him. She represents the people whose future he has claimed to see, even while ignoring what they feel in the present.

Zendaya’s screen career has moved from Disney Channel stardom to serious dramatic authority with impressive speed. Films lists Shake It Up, the Spider-Man films, The Greatest Showman and Euphoria among her major credits, while also noting her Emmy-winning success on HBO’s Euphoria.

Robert Pattinson as Scytale

Cast Status: New Character 

Robert Pattinson is the most exciting new face in Dune: Part 3 because he joins as Scytale, the villainous Face Dancer tied to the conspiracy against Paul. Pattinson appears in the trailer as a white-haired antagonist named Scytale who intends to kill Paul, while Entertainment Weekly described Scytale as a shapeshifting villain. That casting feels deliciously precise because Pattinson has spent much of his post-Twilight career making discomfort look magnetic. Scytale should not feel like a brute-force enemy. 

After becoming globally famous through Twilight, he rebuilt his screen identity through films such as Good Time, The Lighthouse, Tenet and The Batman. His work often carries a nervous, unpredictable charge, which makes him a smart fit for the Tleilaxu world. Pattinson and Zendaya share multiple 2026 projects, including The Drama, The Odyssey and Dune: Part Three. 

Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho / Hayt

Cast Status: Returning Actor, New Character Variant 

Jason Momoa’s return is the biggest ‘dead does not mean done’ moment in the new film. Duncan Idaho died in the first Dune, but People reported that Momoa returns in Dune: Part Three, with the trailer showing Duncan bringing Paul a peace proposal that is later described as something designed to destroy him. Space.com explains the book context more directly, noting that Dune Messiah uses a ghola of Duncan, a regenerated version of the dead swordmaster. This is one of Herbert’s strangest and most painful ideas because Duncan’s return is both gift and trap. If Villeneuve gets it right, Momoa could be the emotional surprise of the film.

Momoa is best known for physically commanding roles, but his best work usually comes when that size is paired with warmth. His roles in Game of Thrones and the DC films as Aquaman, along with his earlier work on Baywatch.

Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan

Cast Status: Returning Character

Florence Pugh returns as Princess Irulan, whose role should become much larger now that Paul has married her for political power. People reported that Pugh reprises Irulan and described her as Paul’s wife and the daughter of the dethroned Emperor Shaddam IV. This is a fascinating place for the character because Irulan is trapped between defeated royalty and new imperial machinery. She may have status, but status without affection can become its own private prison. 

Pugh has built her reputation on performances that feel emotionally muscular, even when the character is vulnerable. Her lists Little Women and Oppenheimer among her major credits, while also discussing her arrival in Dune: Part Two. She has also appeared in Midsommar, The Wonder, Black Widow and Thunderbolts.

Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides

Cast Status: Returning Actor, Expanded Role 

Anya Taylor-Joy’s Alia Atreides appeared through Paul’s vision in Dune: Part Two, but Dune: Part 3 should finally turn her from a strange promise into a living complication. People reported that Taylor-Joy is returning, while Space.com noted that Alia was not born during Dune: Part Two, even though viewers saw a future version of her through Paul’s vision. Alia is one of the most difficult characters to adapt because her consciousness is shaped by forces older than her body. 

Taylor-Joy became a global name through Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, Last Night in Soho, The Menu and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, among her major credits.

Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica

Cast Status: Returning Character 

Rebecca Ferguson returns as Lady Jessica, even though the character is far less central to Dune Messiah than she was to the first two films. Space.com reported that Lady Jessica is part of the threequel despite being only mentioned in the novel. That is a smart adaptation choice if used sparingly. Jessica shaped Paul before he became Emperor, and her presence can remind viewers that prophecy did not swallow him by accident. 

Ferguson’s international breakout came through Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, and her Swedish TV work in Nya tider and her lead role in Apple TV’s Silo. Ferguson’s Lady Jessica has always been one of Villeneuve’s strongest casting choices because she can make restraint feel terrifying. 

Javier Bardem as Stilgar

Cast Status: Returning Character 

Javier Bardem returns as Stilgar, the Fremen leader whose belief in Paul became one of the most unsettling emotional turns in Dune: Part Two. People reported that fans at the Global IMAX Fan Event saw footage of Stilgar leading Fremen warriors into battle, while the outlet also lists Bardem among the returning Dune: Part Three cast. Stilgar matters because he embodies the cost of sincere faith when political power learns to use it.

Bardem has spent decades playing tenderness and menace with equal confidence. His role as Stilgar and also notes his wider film career, while Bardem is widely recognized for No Country for Old Men, Skyfall, Biutiful, The Sea Inside and Being the Ricardos. His power in Dune comes from how little he overplays. 

Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck

Cast Status: Returning Character 

Josh Brolin returns as Gurney Halleck, Paul’s old Atreides weapons master and one of the few surviving links to the life Paul lost when House Harkonnen destroyed his family. People reported that Brolin is among the returning actors in Dune: Part Three, and People’s cast guide describes Gurney as close to House Atreides and as Paul’s private weapons tutor. Gurney is valuable because he can still speak to Paul as someone who knew him before worship, empire and conquest.

Brolin has the kind of gravelly authority that makes even a small role feel heavier. He worked in No Country for Old Men and his Marvel role as Thanos. He has also appeared in Sicario, Milk, True Grit, Outer Range and Avengers: Endgame. 

Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides

Cast Status: New Character 

Nakoa-Wolf Momoa makes his acting debut as Leto II Atreides, one of Paul and Chani’s twin children. People reported that Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet’s son was cast in Dune: Messiah as Leto II, while Ida Brooke plays his onscreen twin sister Ghanima. This casting is interesting beyond the family headline because Leto II is one of the most significant names in Herbert’s wider saga. Even if Dune: Part 3 focuses mainly on Messiah, his presence immediately points toward the larger Atreides future. 

Nakoa-Wolf is new to acting, and that makes him one of the biggest unknowns in the cast. Villeneuve has built these films around faces that feel specific rather than merely famous, and casting a newcomer as Leto II may preserve some mystery around the character. 

Ida Brooke as Ghanima Atreides

Cast Status: New Character 

Brooke joins Dune: Part 3 as Ghanima Atreides, the twin sister of Leto II and daughter of Paul and Chani. People reported that Brooke will portray Ghanima opposite Nakoa-Wolf Momoa’s Leto II. Like Leto, Ghanima connects Part Three to the next generation of House Atreides, which means her inclusion is not casual. Even if the film does not fully enter Children of Dune territory, Ghanima’s existence changes the emotional math around Paul and Chani. 

Brooke is a young performer whose highest-profile role so far is clearly Dune: Part 3. People identified her as Ghanima in the upcoming film, while Space.com also lists Brooke among the additions connected to Paul and Chani’s children. That relative freshness may help the character because Ghanima should not arrive carrying too much outside-image baggage.

Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam

Cast Status: Returning Character 

Rampling returns as Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam, one of the Bene Gesserit figures whose long political breeding program helped create the disaster now facing the universe. People lists Rampling among the actors in Dune: Part Three, and Space.com identifies her as part of the returning cast for the Dune Messiah adaptation. Mohiam is fascinating because she represents institutional intelligence without much visible tenderness. 

Rampling has one of the most formidable filmographies in the ensemble. She is widely known for The Night Porter, 45 Years, Swimming Pool, Melancholia, Red Sparrow and Benedetta. Her Oscar nomination for 45 Years renewed mainstream attention around a career already rich with severe, elegant performances. 

Isaach de Bankolé as Farok

Cast Status: New Character 

Isaach de Bankolé joins Dune: Part 3 as Farok, a Fremen figure tied to Paul’s post-victory world. People includes De Bankolé among the cast for the film, while The Guardian identified Farok as a Fremen leader introduced in the new installment. In Herbert’s Dune Messiah, Farok belongs to the more disillusioned side of Paul’s rule, which could make him a crucial counterpoint to Stilgar. 

De Bankolé is a veteran actor with a global screen presence and a long association with art-house cinema. He is known for collaborations with Jim Jarmusch, including Night on Earth, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, Coffee and Cigarettes and The Limits of Control. He has also appeared in Casino Royale, Black Panther, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and White Material. De Bankolé often brings calm intensity to roles that might otherwise feel purely functional.
